Default Breaking in engine question.....

I have only 280 miles on my car and I'm trying to be really careful not to floor the gas or go above 4K rpm for the first 1500 miles. However, some guys recently told me that this is just a myth and that modern engines today doesn't have to be "babied." Is this true? I know prior to buying my car, my sales agent told me a couple guys test drove it pretty aggressively but that I shouldn't worry too much.

So, if it goes pop, you can claim it was due to the treatment it received before you purchased it - yes?

It will likely be fine, but just break it in as it says in the owner's manual.

The important part is to a) change oil early b) not to rev it while the engine is still cold.

I liken it to starting a jogging regime; if you are new to it, you wouldn't go out and get straight into a sprint would you?, warm up and then go for a good run and have the odd blast!

I agree; after a couple hundred miles, the first oil change and the engine's up to temperature, I wouldn't hesitate to hammer it myself.

I haven't confirmed it yet for the F Type but typically factory fill oils have additional additives added to help the engine, seals, etc break in correctly. While I don't recommend waiting for the first service (16K), I don't think that changing the oil super early is good either if indeed there are additives added to the factory fill oil. I changed my oil at a 5k on my first F Type.

I waited until the 1st scheduled oil change per Jaguar and I beat the hell out of it from Day 1. It was at the track just weeks after I bought it and it just keeps getting faster

Drove it per break-in guidance for 3750 miles, changed and analyzed oil, and then flogged it to the extent the clutch wold allow. Now at 8000 miles and the clutch is finally fixed, I'll step it up a notch or two. Foosh and I have a grudge race to schedule at Capitol Raceway.
