Default CAN Bus Error After Replacing Mode & Start Switch

Ugh. I replaced orange / bronze plastic paddle shifters with some red aluminum ones from eBay. Everything was great.. but the orange start button and mode switch looked terrible w/ the new red paddles. So I purchased new switches from dealer.
T2R42909 Ignition Switch $99.64 1 $99.64
T2R13761 Mode Control $96.23 1 $96.23

Since replacing switches Mode Control switch doesn't work.. nor do the 4 smaller buttons in center (spoiler, traction, exhaust, eco). I get the following errors.
U0001 high Speed CAN Communications Bus Error
U042B Invalid Data Received from Chassis Control Module "A".

Surprised I replaced the Mode Control switch with original - still failed. Then also replaced Ignition Switch with original. Still fails. Tried swapping them a couple more times. I though I might have pulled too hard on cables.. but they group of 40+ cables is secured well. I have visually checked all wire & switches connections. Still getting error and buttons continue to fail. I cleared codes many times. I have disconnected both batteries in trunk for 30 min after clearing codes. Error comes back.

To be clear.. the 5 buttons don't work and I get errors still. It doesn't matter if I use the old button & switch or new.

Really hoping one of you has an idea how to trouble shoot or repair.

-Nathan

This document discusses the ‘JaguarDrive Switchpack’, plus it discusses a few failure modes. The other buttons that you mentioned don’t work are all connected into the mode switchpack, which communicates their state onto the CAN bus.

Thx @DJS That PDF is interesting. Explains why the Mode selector affects the other buttons. Key revelation for me was the note of a fuse. Of course. Which is why original didn't work when put back in, because the fuse was blown.

The original switch is longer. I noticed but just figured they changed form factor - the original orange switch was much longer. Must be more to it than that. I swapped the top, visible part of the switch (you can see in pics) require just 4 tabs to be gently lifted.

All is working now. Thx for your help, @DJS !

Original in Orange

Swapped w/ new black & chrome top.

Well done. How did you blow that fuse? Did you not disconnect the battery when changing the switchgear?

I did not disconnect battery. Line shouldn't have power going to it with car off. Fuse blows immediately on start with bad Mode Selector in it. Went through 3 fuses to verify.
