Sport Mode Switch Not Lighting Up? 3.0L Auto (2000)

Just noticed (hopefully a coincidence after having it in dealer for coil/plug fault last week) that the red light on the sport mode switch does not come on when switch is activated. I haven't investigated yet (wet n dark out) but does anyone know if this could be something more suspicious than a lamp failure in the switch? Not tried driving it hard with switch in different positions to see if mode is still working yet either.
Also, anyone removed the switch before (advice please to avoid damage)?

The light is a tiny diode and i suppose it can go bad.....but like always start with basics and test for power at the diode.....(with test light or Volt meter) If you have power...bad diode...no power, start looking at the switch possible bad ground or bad/corroded connection...
You get slight more performance with it on because it switches it to sports mode. All it does is raise the RPMS up a little to get better response, but it also gets you more gas waisted!
I wudnt reccomend keeping it on all the time as u really dont need it. like big sed it wastes gas/petrol. Only use it when u want to use all the rpms and longer shifts.
