i have this car from 6 months and i need to be honest i can say yes

i have also huracan and of course no comparision from both

but the line of the f-type is very exotic for me , in the night look like a bat mobile , and all of the person look at it like a super super car that cost 200k in the night

more people don't know it what car is it and think it's a ferrari ( lol ) but the fron and the side is similar to the front engine ferrari

what is you opinion ??

if you do side by side look with a porsche there is no way ..f-type take the scene

I would say semi exotic. sure

Given the production numbers, the F-Type might be considered exclusive, but not exotic. (plus they're not sufficiently impractical). The only BMW in recent times that can be considered exotic was the Z8. The Mercedes SLR and AMG-GT are exotic. The Project 7 probably qualifies. None of the Porsches qualify (just too ubiquitous). Maserati used to be, but lost it all when they introduced the Bi-Turbo. Ferrari and Lambo certainly qualify and McLaren still fits the mold.

Exotic as a noun, in the car world is much different than the general use of exotic as an adjective. Your Huracan is an exotic, and looks exotic. The Jag maybe looks exotic, but is not an exotic.

By that standard, F-type convertibles are exotic due to trunk space.

Not by a long shot. Its a sports car at best.

Exotic = Ferrari, Lambo, McLaren 570 & 720 etc
Hyper = Zonda, Koenigsegg, McLaren P1, La Ferrari etc

Exotic for me = low, wide, mid engine, jaw dropping looks and somewhat unobtainable

Hyper = bleeding edge performance / power trains and totally unobtainable

It's a great car, a special car, but not an exotic.
Exotics come across as intimidating; the F-Type is inviting.

Then that means my previous car (Pontiac Solstice) was super exotic since it only had 5.4 cubic feet around the edges of the trunk with the top up, and with the top down, maybe half that? Just looked and apparently I now have 7 cubic feet and the space is USABLE! I feel like I almost have an SUV with all that space!

These aren't my photos (I've already sold the Sol) but this gives you the idea.
Top up and you have a bit of space (with your tire kit of stop flat and compressor taking up some of the space).
Top down - takes up most of the space and even if you had some space, you can't get to it now.

Back to the original topic though - I agree with most that it may be exotic looking, but it isn't an exotic. It's probably as close as I'll ever get to owning an exotic, but honestly I'm ok with that since I don't live somewhere I could really use all that power.

Could you make the argument that "exotic-ness is in the eye of the beholder"?

I have a lowly XE, and here in Austin it almost always gets parked in the "VIP" spots when I have it valeted at nice restaurants... you know, in front of the doors, facing customers on their walk in. On several occasions it has been parked next to Panameras, Bentleys, and other cars costing 4-5X more. I personally would never consider the car to be in that league, and of course it is not even close, but the valets seem to treat it as such. I imagine F-types receive similar treatment.

Does this qualify them as exotic? At minimum, the Jaguar brand is held in very high regard.

I would vote YES & NO. To me an exotic MUST be a MINIMUM of an 8 cylinder engine so the R & SVR would qualify as exotics but the v6 variants would not qualify IMHO

If you want to confuse them even more, put one of these on your head so that when you get out they will think... He wouldn't wear that unless it WAS a Ferrari so.. must be so.

I personally think that the AMG-GT is almost the same car as the F-Type SVR. It is simply Benz's derivation so if it qualifies, so does the F-Type SVR

Least expensive car I would classify as an exotic is a Lambo. No souped up GTR, Corvette, etc is an exotic either.

ferrari lambo mclaren and ? because the step to hyper is hard to notice .... mclaren p1 is hyper for example

It's such a subjective term - I don't think it has anything to do with the cost, size of engine or number of cylinders (those V8 braggards at it again!).

If you've been used to a domestic brand like Ford or GM for the whole of your driving history and you suddenly find yourself in a brand like Jaguar, Aston, Lambo then maybe it feels exotic to you. And that's all it is. But then I drive my F for the pleasure I derive from it, not the rarity value or the labelling. Why do I get more pleasure from it than an Audi ? No idea. Maybe genetics and a sprinkling of nurture (both my grandfather and father had Jags in their ownership history).
