Default Car suddenly feels slippery/unstable at higher speeds.

I own a 2015 Jaguar F-Type R that I acquired a couple of years ago. I recently got 4 new tires & had my rear control arms replaced. I also have to replace my front control arms as well, but they still have some life in them.

A couple of days ago, I took the car on the expressway for the first time in a while & I noticed as I was driving around 75-80 mph, the car felt unstable & almost like it could slide/lose control. I’ve never noticed this before.

What could be the possible cause for this? Might the front control arms have something to do with how the car handles? It’s very odd because normally the car feels very planted & grippy when driving at higher speeds.

Thanks for reading!

Did you get it aligned after the work and new tires? Sounds like the camber or toe could be off.

If the tires are 'brand-new' (less than 500 miles) you may just be feeling tramlining.

Possible that it is characteristic of the new tires.

Verify that pressures are correct, perhaps reduce front pressure by 1 - 2 PSI.

They used to say you needed something like 50 miles to wear the release compound off the new tires.

Yes, tires were aligned after install. They are brand new. I have not put on more than 500 miles since getting them. Here are the tires I chose. https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...oModClar=Coupe

Also this. When I got my MY23 it had 16 miles on it and I remember how 'greasy' the tires seemed for about the first 100 miles or so. After that they were fine.

Have you checked your tire pressures I find that my F-Type is really squirrely when the tire pressures are not perfect

I find that on my F-Type my tire pressure is have to be perfect for the cars all over the place it just doesn't feel right ,it gets really squirrely when the pressures are off.

May even by more than 50 miles... my tires took about 200 miles to be sort of "sticky."

The other thing is that new tires have much thicker tread and those blocks do move a little....worn tires get t be more and more close to slicks causing "bad things" like hydroplaning" but also to some degree improving grip to a point (then they overheat too...anyway, drive it a bit more.

Make sure the pressures are correct and even (agree with above). One soft tire can do a lot to change things.

Final thought, make sure everything it bolted down right. Check torque on lugnuts, etc. Check suspension....

Please report back.

So I noticed all 4 of my tires were a bit overinflated by 4-5 PSI. I’m not sure if this has had anything to do with my issue, but I deflated the tires to 36 PSI which is what the F-Type R recommends. Perhaps this will make a difference.

The link doesn't work for me either. From what you've said I might suspect you picked a tire with a soft sidewall. These can be great for passenger cars and give you that smooth floating down the road feeling. But for a suspension tuned performance vehicle at higher speeds, they may feel mushy like your rear end is about to slide.

I’m not sure why the link isn’t working, but here are the tires I bought…

Bridgestone Potenza RE980AS+ Ultra High Performance All Season

You need to align wheels too. After any suspension work. Not sure how exact this number is, but I am living with the information that you need cca 500 km to break in any new tire until optimal grip.

See both of the above posts.
New tires need quite a few miles to wear off whatever they put on new tires, until then be careful.
