Default i need advice on rear lower control arms

i bought a jaguar 02 x-type about 3 months ago but i noticed a lot wear in the inner side of the tires, so i went to the shop and they say that it needs the rear lower control arms and this is what they want to charge me.

(2)LOWER CONTROL ARM $205.99each $411.98 +$204 LABOR = $615
THRUST ANGLE ALIGNMENT $50
REAR TOE ADJUSTMENT $20

TECH COMMENT: rear control arm ball joints loose

DOES THIS SOUNDS RIGHT?

The price is a bit excessive.
do a google search for 'jaguar x-type control arm' you can find lower prices. labor sounds about right.
This is a common problem on earlier model x-types. Cannot confirm on later models. Wheel bearings tend to go due to the suspension abuse as well.
Good luck!

For DC area, the price sounds in the ball park. The price on the control arms seem close, too.

So, for Denver area, it would probably be similar.

do you guys think that i should buy the upper control arms as well? they didn't say anything about that.

is it most common that the rear control arm goes bad than the front ones?

thanks for the answers

Unfortunately had fronts and rears both go bad on my 2002. No problems at all on my 2006.

I misread earlier. The parts cost a bit high when I checked again. I thought it was the front and not rear. Anyway, if the price for the control arms include the additional parts that mount together, perhaps the price may be close.

Sorry about that.

Dude i would never pay that amount. I just did my upper and lower for like 250 bucks. Granted it was the lower front arm. If you have to do the lower that the spring sits on just borrow a spring compressor from your local parts store or even buy one to do it. VERY EASY!!!!

Here is the site i got all my stuff from. I go through them only because they are exact on what i want and some other off places dont show you exactly or siply do not have it.

http://www.britishparts.co.uk/.sc/ms...ing-Suspension

Order through them, they will send you an email on the conversion from there currency. Just dont respond to the email and they will ship it the next day. Most it would be is like 130 bucks.

After reading some of what people pay makes me wanna open a shop just for jaguars and mustangs. Im 28 and could retire at 40!!!! LOL. Not tryin to be a smart *** in any way just like to shine light on peoples wallets!!!!

Yeah, that shop was about to take you for a ride. Good thing you posted here and did you check first.

Lowering control arms from the dealer are no more than $100.

Just got off the phone with my local Jaguar dealer and learned that replacing the rear control arms, whose bushings wear out causing the rear alignment to go out and not be correctable, is now a covered repair.

So, if you car is still under factory warranty you can now have this repair done.

Last spring, after having a four-wheel alignment done and finding out that the rear was not correctable, I took my car to the deal and found out that, at that time, the repair was not covered. That has now changed.
