Center console vent TSB
Just like all my non Jag driving friends said it would, my center vent quit rising up with its usual drama. Doing some research, it seems this is not as common an issue as I expected, but a number of the early models were fixed with an updated part and so, that might explain the lack of issues in modern vehicles. It also seemed to be worse in the hotter months. I have the unit out and on my kitchen table and, was getting ready to see if I could find any friction in the mechanism that needed to be taken out. Since I have the unit in bits, I was wondering if there was a part that I could upgrade, while I was in there. Does anybody have the TSB that addressed the issue in the 2014 models?
Cheers.
Cheers.
Remove these pins (second photo) snd use a dremel or similar device to carefully open up the holes in the connecting links (first photo) that pivot on those pins. I have an early 2014 and fixed the problem as I described above.
In my case, the vent would often not go down on its own, I could lightly push it and it would go down; it was getting hung up. Never had an issue since the dealer performed the TSB. Here it is:

I also grabbed this from somewhere (probably here), don’t know who wrote it as it doesn’t say and I didn’t note it. Thanks to the author…

(I see JAX posted this second one too. My copy is missing that it’s from ‘Alex.’)

DJ, Thanks for the TSB. I was hoping it might list an upgraded part, but it appears that the fix was to just replace the complete unit. I will proceed with removing the friction from the pivots, as others have suggested. Thanks.
