Default Center Vent Fails to raise

Hi gang, I searched to see if anyone else had reported a similar problem but did not get any hits. Has anyone else had a problem with their center vent failing to raise on startup? Mine will only occasionally not open. It has happened now abut 6 times in 1 1/2 years of service, ironically twice on days when I was about to go to the dealer for service, but on the leg to the dealer, it magically opened with no problem?
I have a dash carpet(a necessity here in S.W. Fla for sun protection) and at first thought the fibers might be clogging the mechanism. The dealer checked on two occasions and found nothing clogging or restricting anything. At least the problem is logged into my service record for later reference??

There ARE reports of some owners having to replace the vent assembly under warranty.

But first: Have you verified whether it will lift when you set the temp on 'LO', or the DIRECTION to Face? Our '14 hasn't lifted the vents for a month since it turned cold (set on Automatic). <<YES I see you are in Florida, PLEASE don't rub it in!>>

(I'm sure its an aero thing, LOL.)

Mine only raises at start-up if the ambient conditions require HVAC intervention to meet the temp settings on the dials. It also retracts as soon as HVAC is no longer required.

This is correct...the vent is not supposed to automatically rise when the car is started...the system is more sophisticated than that. It only is raised when cool/cold air is called for. There may be no problem at all with your system. If you like that vent up all the time this is easily programmed in the settings (this is in your owner's manual).

It happened to me. It was changed last month as a guarantee.

Just had mine replaced. Sometimes it would go all the way up, but most times only part way. Dealer had it for a couple of days while waiting for parts. Cheerfully repaired under warranty.

BTW, for those of us in the Peoples Republik of MD and PA, the dealer in Cockeysville / Hunt Valley is no longer Frankel. It's now Priority.

Mine has stopped rising fully when it's supposed to. I need to take it in to get fixed. I figured this was coming based on prior dialogs and it finally did. I believe I may be past my warranty so I'm curious as to cost. With the Frankel dealership changing to Priority I'm not sure what to expect but I think my same service guys are still there.

Only raises when required as others on this thread have stated. Since the cold weather arrived my vent stays closed all the time.

The Jag service adviser, Ed, is gone. Can't remember the new guy's name, but he isn't nearly as friendly as Ed. Not that he's bad, just all business.

2014s had this issue. Mine would open fine, but would get stuck closing, so that I'd have to push it down. Replaced under warranty, not an issue since then.

Thanks for that info. As my A/C is usually on, I will check it in the OFF position, and again the next time that it fails to raise. I did have the service tech check it, and nothing was mentioned about temp-a/c usage, etc.
For those of you in the cold North, I can recommend a good realtor.....Sorry, couldn't resist, I have spent time in -54 degrees. NEVER AGAIN!!!!

You could configure it to always open, as a way to check that it's capable of working. Then you'll know the car's not raising it for its own reasons when you reset it to Auto.

I discovered (unknown by dealer service rep at the time, that the vent is designed to only come up if the A/C is operating. Do not know about heat, as I live in S.W. Fla. and never use heat, yet.

It comes open with heat if you have heat blowing out that vent

I think heat comes out in the convertible - I've only ever noticed cold air coming out of my coupe.
