Makes them easier to clean (hydrophobic). Dirt just washes off with ease, it is especially nice to do on our cars which generate so much brake dust.

Oh I see - apply a sealant/synthetic wax. I had visions of the type of plasma coatings applied to improve wear and thermal properties.
