Is Jaguar one of those cars that you have to tell the system it has a new battery?

I believe that's what they want you to believe, most of us just replace the battery. I never had an issue.

I had to wonder as I know some other foreign makers do this. I don't have anyone close with the proper scan tools to do this. I would have to go to a dealership to get this done if it were needed. That's a couple hour drive away.

I just replaced mine today. It had a good run: 7 years and 4 months. I haven't been out for a drive yet, so need to do the usual window reset procedure tomorrow. I have no plans to do the service manual specified reset of the battery module with approved equipment. I'm sure it'll figure it out.

I replaced the battery a couple of months ago after the original lasted 10 years.
I attempted to reset the BMS (Battery Management System) using my iCarsoft LR V2.0 but no go, it failed at the last step over and over again.
I suspect this was because I ripped the auxiliary battery out ages ago.
But not to worry, zero problems since, and I have read in many places that the BMS sorts itself out after 4 or 5 drive cycles anyway.

I don't have an auxiliary battery (2016 MY) but expect zero problems. My last might have lasted longer but I put a rodent repellent device under the hood that consumes some small amount of electricity. The infrequent use wasn't a problem before, but with that and the cold weather, I started getting the low battery warning, even after half an hour of driving.

I had to reset the BMS in my car after replacing a 10 year old battery because the charging system wasn't working properly (kept allowing the battery voltage to drop below 12V before attempting to charge). Used an iCarsoft V3.0 to do the reset and the problem was solved.

BTW my car has a dead auxiliary battery so eco restart system doesn't work anymore.

I had to replace the battery in my 2016 F-Type earlier this year. A local inspection station had just performed the annual state inspection, and I wasn't aware of the battery drain issue connected with using the OBD II port. I didn't connect the battery maintainer, and the battery was completely dead when I went to use the car a week or so later. I swapped out the dead battery for a new (fully charged) NAPA AGM replacement and did not attempt to reset any modules. I had no issues after connecting the new battery.

I doubt a battery maintainer can compete with the OBD-inspired drain. You may have found that giving the battery a good charge after resetting everything would have sparked life into it, but at that age it's probably a wise move to replace it anyway.

Just replaced mine, 11 years. Nothing but clock and window reset. Put it on charge before and after and zero issues.

Even if the maintainer could keep up it would do nothing to solve the problem

I've had good luck with the C-Tek in it's "Recondition" mode. I did that last summer, and again this summer. It seemed to restore some life to the battery but did not bestow immortality on it. My service adviser says four years is typical for his customers (both J and LR).
