Default Coming to join the party from XKR

Hello all,
I drove my first F-type and must say WOW! It’s everything my XKR is not and that I love about the F. My XKR is just to soft for my liking and let’s face it the exhaust note is sick on the F.

Anyway, I found a 15’ R coupe with 17K miles only two blocks from my house and took it for a spin. The sales person was white knuckled by the time we returned. Lol.

So what do I need to know about these cars? My concern is after the test drive I opened the bonnet and slightly smelled coolant when sniffing the front engine area (drivers side more).....my XKR had its share of coolant leak/water pump. I don’t want to start all over again.

Any help would be appreciated !

Early F-types share all of XKRs problems - so coolant leaks are expected in 14 and early 15 cars.

Have someone check out the plastic coolant line that runs under the SC before you buy it. Those have been known to expire prematurely. Cheap part, but expensive to get to. Early water pumps also known to fail. A system pressure test should identify any issue.

Yes there have been some but they are the ones you only ever hear of.

I came to the F-Type from a 2010 XKR and the only downside is the reduced amount of space for stuff - I used to use the rear seats for odds and ends and coats, umbrellas, etc. If you store your umbrella in the F-Type boot/trunk you'll get soaked in transit! Apart from that - fabulous car, definitely a great upgrade. And you can legitimately claim green credentials as you're downsizing to a smaller, more fuel-efficient vehicle.

I freaking love this car vs my XKR. Purchased her and took her home to the garage until tomorrow when she gets a bath, clay, compound, polish and wax, only then she will be ready to face the world. Lol

IRR with the alloy wheels and chrome trim is a very classy combination, IMO. Looks great.

Exactly, I came over from the 5.0XKR, the steering and transmission in the F Type are just light years ahead and you could never get the power down in the XKR. Also with the F Type you hear the exhaust a lot better. The XKR is very loud outside (not F Type loud, but still very loud) but you dont really know from the inside of the coupe. The XKR is a beautiful car to drive, but it drives more like the XE or the XJR than it does the F Type.

I just spent the day with my new BFF. Six hours washing, Clay baring, washing, compounding, washing, polishing, and then hydro sealing. Not a scratch on her ( a couple stone chips ) which will be address once Dr color chip arrives. Then a nice drive just before the storms arrived.

Omg I love this car! It is my new all time favorite over the cardiac CTS-V’s gen1 and gen2. A Camaro 1LE and two Corvettes. All the things I didn’t like about the XKR the F-Type R addresses....Bravo

Even the exhaust is now clean !

Beautiful car, congratulations.
Did you wind up trading in your XKR, I saw that you had it listed in the classified section.
