Default Conti's or Mich PSS tires?

I'm a way off purchasing, however I'm noticing that the rears are half way though to the wear indicators now, so it's inevitable that I will have to think about replacing the OEM fitted tyres soon.

I know that many have chosen the Mich Pilot Sports over the P0's and this has had a positive impact on the handling and noise.

I wonder if anyone has a true comparison between the Mich a and the Continental range?
I believe that they are fitted as standard to the P7's.

Also thinking about going up in size to compliment the MSTech hub centric spacers fitted as well, and wonder if going up in size will make it look a bit too daft?

TIA

I'm thinking about trying out the Kumho that just came out. The tread pattern is very similar to the PSS and they rank just as high as the PSS according to TireRack and VERY attractively priced.

Thanks for the updated tire test .. I've ordered the PSS tires about a week ago.

If something is better than MPSS is out there, please come back and post here.

I have heard good things from friends who have moved from the PSSs to the Ecstas at a much lower price ($230 vs $390 for a rear paw). At a UTQC of 260, it still isn't shabby against the 300 of the PSS. (P-zeros are 220). UTQC numbers are just a general guide regarding tire wear since the manufacturers each set their own standards for running the test (no gov't testing standard). I will be considering the Kuhmos after I use up my current inventory of tires.

MPSS is the #1 tire in the category without a doubt.

With that being said, the new Kumho PS91's seem to give you about 90% of the performance at a fraction of the cost based on the reviews I have read

When I take my life into my own hands, 10% matter. I don't want my gravestone to state "He almost made it, too bad he cheapened out on tires".

I had Conti DW's on '08 V6 TT and Contispec on '12 Merc AMG, both nice. DW very hard by 10k. On Merc fronts brand new at 14k but 2 sets of rear. Had earlier Kumho Ecstas on '05 V6 TT for 6k and seemed like a great value. That said both the Jag and the Maser get PSS at change time!

I'm not sure that conclusion is entirely accurate from your link you can go to this report

Tire Test Results : Three Against One in Max Performance Summer. Will the Newest Tires Dethrone the Long-Time Champion?
Which basically says the Kumho whilst it was good value and held its own, came fourth after first placed PSS, P Zero and Eagle F1

I have the newly released Conti Sport Contact 5's on mine that did well in the tyre tests, previously had goodyear eagle f1's Conti's seem pretty good to me, took it on a road trip round Europe, and included a lap of the Nurburgring, tyre noise isn't an issue, never found them wanting for grip, remains to be seen how long they last.
there were some Dunlops for really silly money, like half the price, I was tempted to get a set of rears just to burn through them like a hooligan but didn't

I just put a set of PSS on yesterday, wow... what a difference. I was not unhappy with the Pirelli's, but the PSS's are leagues better.

I have run the ContiSport DWS on a Lexus sedan, and they were great as well (especially for the price). They worked well for a sedan as they were nice and quiet and performed well, but they do not compare to the PSS in a sports car application in my opinion.
