Currently looking to join the ranks of Ftype Owners. Looking at a 2016 R Coupe with 18K miles. Dealer wants a bit above KBB fair Market value (KBB is saying 43-47K). is this common with these cars? Anything I should specifically check. It still ahs the original Coolant Y Pipe and they did replace the center AC/heat Vents as those were inoperable. Little bit of oxidation on the wheels and the interior seat bolts are cracking a bit. But it is a 2016 so I wouldn't expect the interior to be perfect. Any advice from current owners is much appreciated. 3 previous owners and no accident damage on Carfax. The selling dealership has been doing the service on the car for the last few years.

Interior seat bolts cracking? What the? Is that a thing on these cars?!? On the surface that don’t sound good…lol
As for pricing. Not sure if what you are reporting is the beginning of something, but I’ve always believed that these cars would eventually end up having their day. They are already low volume to begin with, and the end of production forever has just been announced. The classic we want what we can no longer have scenario.
People love to rag on Jaguar (often unfairly), but those who like these cars like them. I can’t really directly help you on pricing, but if you are interested in one I would definitely secure one sooner rather than later. I think over even the next few short years the values on a lot of these sorts of cars will increase…How can they not as government mandates continue to suck the life out of the auto enthusiast? It really is simple math for me.
Did you mean interior seat bolsters ? As in the leather is cracking ?
If the bolts holding the seat frames to the floor pan are cracking you have problems. You will want to have the plastic coolant pipes replaced and make sure all scheduled maintenance has been done.
The car only has 18k miles but it also is at least 7 years old so things like fan belts and radiator hoses should be replaced. And how about the tires ? Are they the originals or low mileage replacements ? A set of high performance tires will easily run $2000 + and if they are the originals, cracks to the sidewalls may be present or not too far into the future. And 18,000 miles on a set of high performance tires is pretty close to the end of service life anyway.
If the dealer is asking above Blue Book price I would carefully research the costs of bringing the car up to 100% reliability and roadworthy status and tell the dealer you will pay his asking price once those things are addressed.

Yes That should have read seat bolsters. Seat bolts are great as far as I know. But the lower Bolsters are rough. Thank you for the feedback.
When I did bring up the Differential Oil to the dealer they went with the standard "That's not required until X amount of miles response". Not even considering the amount of years on the car so that is a big turn off for me.

Jaguar's service schedule has diff oil changes by year, not miles (unless you so as many miles as their schedules suggest).

Exactly, Again that was another red flag that is leading me to just walk away from it. No One can tell me if its ever even been done on the car 8 years in.
I'm not trying to be super picky, but if I'm going to over pay off the lot it had better be ready to go. I don't mind doing it myself but don't BS me with its not required until X Amount of miles.
I asked what type of pre sale inspection they did and they said a Used car inspection which means basically a PA Safety inspection.

Don’t blame ya at all. Definitely not confidence inspiring. They just want the sale. As usual, there are limits around how much they’re looking out for your best interests. Typical stuff.
Sometimes, you just have to walk away.. that said, I bought my 2017 in 2020 with 24k miles. It still had 18 m factory warranty. I pressed my Jaguar shop on the coolant pipes, bringing evidence from this forum. I also asked and said I'd pay for,, having the supercharger oil replaced, even though JLR said it was good for 100K. Fortunately my tech did not agree with that forever oil notion, and since the SC had to come out for the coolant pipe work, he replaced the SC oil. My original SC turned out to have a defect, and so I got a new SC. Also a new water pump, as the original wouldn't play nice with the new pipes. You may want to insist in a diff oil change, due to cars age. What does the CarFax say on its care and maintenance? My F is a manual trans, and I'd like to think that the value will go back up. They are spectacular cars, but you have to find the one that is right for you and that includes price.

Thank you valerie. Carfax is Spotty at best. The frustrating part is this dealership has performed the maintenance in the last 3 years yet wont tell me anything when I ask. Sadly it appears I am going to walk away from this one. And the search will continue. It is just so rare to finally have one pop up that is within Driving distance to actually test drive and see. That will always be a requirement for me. I'm not purchasing a car without seeing and driving it.
I would grab both the sales manager and service department manager and tell them I would be a serious buyer of the vehicle but first they need to provide the complete service history. And not doing so is unacceptable. The cost of having the transmission fluid and rear differential oil changed isn't that high and if it hadn't been done I would either have them do it for free, pay them to do it, do it myself or take it to an independent mechanic. Those services are not something that requires a particular Jaguar experienced expert to do.
The other services like the coolant pipes, water pump and supercharger service are another story. Those need to have been addressed or be addressed before laying out your hard earned money.
If they still resist I would think about finding out who the actual owner of the dealership is and filing a strongly worded complaint about their employees and customer service. Of course the problem might be coming from the top down, but if that doesn't work I'd put on my walking shoes.
BuggDomi, I agree totally about seeing and driving a car before buying.. too many variables and differences in opinion to take a chance. What this would mean to me is that this is not the car for me. In the past when I 'pushed' an issue like this, perhaps ignored 'messages' like this, I came to regret it later. I would only consider a car that was within a day's round trip drive. My F was about 2.5 hours one way. I was prepared to walk if it didn't pass my sniff test. Spent about 3 hours there, but well worth it. Nearly 4 years later, I still think the car is great. Yes, it has its peccadilloes.. the Meridian surround system is not the best. I would for sure look for an F with the Vision Pack, as that rear traffic detector has literally saved my behind, despite parking in an out of the way spot.
Philosophically I'm very much against buying a used car from a dealer. You can count on two things; you're not going to get a good deal and they don't know squat about how the car was treated before it landed on their lot. The best approach, IMO, is to find a private seller that inspires confidence. It's not easy, but there are lots of people out there that have taken great care of their cars and have the maintenance records to back it up. Find a guy like that, and then take the car to an indy mechanic to do an evaluation. If you do those things you can buy with confidence. At best, you can get a deal on a well maintained car. At worst, you get a well maintained car...
Now I know there aren't a ton of F Types for sale by owners out there. You're going to have to be patient or travel. That said, if you're spending 50k+.....worth it.

Totally Agree. I walked away from it today, I'm not going to plop down a huge chunk of cash on a bunch of unknowns. Its just not how I operate.
I'll let the dealer go about their business. Me spending the extra time to complain isn't worth it. Sad part is it's a jaguar dealership so I would expect them to be a little more forthcoming and know that Maintenance isn't just mileage based.
Where are you BuggDomi? I know a guy in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania who has a 2015 R coupe. Dark metallic blue (portofino?). Carbon ceramic brake rotors and factory forged wheels. He previously had it up for sale but changed his mind. You might be able to convince him to sell.

Im Very close to Mechanicsburg right here in Central PA. Any way you could connect me with him. I was looking at 2016 and above for AWD but with something this close the RWD could do. Love the color
Examining the similarities between cars and women [for men] is simply too tempting to pass up [and I apologize to any women who might be offended, but to have any kind of interesting conversation ALWAYS risks such]. Besides, the couple of women who actively contribute to this group seem pretty cool. And after all, for car guys, what else competes for his attention more than women [and cars]...as the apprehension of wealth and status is primarily to this end, no?
I see the relationship with a car [such as ours] as being quite similar to one with a woman. Since men are VERY visual, the attraction to the physical shape of each is critical, and I don't believe anybody here will dispute that the F-Type is a gorgeous car. I could go on and on with the analogy, but I believe we all get it. The point of this post is to draw a parallel between the experience at the car dealership and that with a woman.
I don't know about you [I research the hell out of everything], but I have never left a car dealership [after the deal is done] without wondering how I got screwed [despite the fact that I felt I did all my homework and tried to uncover all the landmines buried along the entire path of car procurement]. Kind of the same way you feel when the woman you wined and dined for months eventually came up with a better offer and cast you off into the great beyond.
Women and car dealers understand better than anybody how to manipulate men. As we stand in amazement watching women buy/consume every damn thing [in their never ending attempts to be happy], men, in their own way, succumb to the desire to obtain the beautiful as a symbol of status and achievement. And although there is certainly nothing wrong with having such a prize in one's garage [or home], be aware of the price to be paid and especially how the most cunning of predators size up the male members of our herd to prey upon.
When the relationship is for a lifetime, the sacrifice of some money and personal humbris is well worth it. Some of us learn that lesson through experience. Others may be smarter in that regard. Regardless, whether one is extremely fortunate when young or waits eons to fulfill one, the other, or both dreams, as long as the road is filled with lots of interesting curves to get there, it is all well worth it.

IMO, you can't think of Jaguar's AWD like Audi's AWD or other manufacturer's AWD. It's a RWD car that can happen to add some power to the front wheels if you are already losing the rear. It's nowhere near the same AWD experience I had on my Audi S5. On my AWD SVR, I have had the tail end come out completely and it was the traction control that kicked in first, not the AWD.
The biggest flaw with the RWD cars was the horrible OEM tires. The car got a bad reputation because of the stock P-Zeros. Once changed out to nearly any other tire, the car is a lot easier to handle. Knowing what I know now, If the SVR didn't exist, I would have gone for a V8S when I decided to change up to a convertible.
