Default DarwinPro Fiberglass/Carbon Fiber hood

Just ordered this aftermarket hood. So its unpainted fiberglass with carbon fiber hood vents. Got it for $2000 shipped. Should be here in a week to a week and a half. My body shop is gonna paint it for $400. Now I'm debating between gloss black side vents or carbon fiber side vents.... Gloss black vents are $113 each while the CF vents are $398 and $424 (don't know why there's a cost difference between right and left vents. Makes no sense). So this is a picture of the hood from the website (company is called DarwinPro).....

This would be how the hood would look after being painted.

Pretty crazy looking hood, similar to the Callaway C6 Vette. If they can get the fitment and paint to look OEM it will look really good on your car.

If the quality and durability is there I have to say I like it. If I ever have hood damage I would seriously consider that direction vs replacing with stock.

If your car has the black trim I'd definitely go gloss black vs carbon fiber. Would blend in better with the rest of the front.

You definitely got a good price. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Jaguar-F-Typ...-/182457583859

Not a fan of the window but a love the vents but Looking forward to seeing the complete results and fitment. Any other body mods or only the hood?

FWIW

Ive has after market hoods and just about every car I’ve modded up until this point at multiple price points from cheap OEM carbon replicas to $5k prepreg carbon and I’ll never go with one again for a street car ... they simply just don’t fit well. unless it’s prepreg carbon the weight savings is minimal over an all aluminum hood.

I am a fan of the window, which is the reason why I purchased this hood. I'm not concerned about The weight-savings aspect since it'll be minimal, if any at all. I've been concentrating on performance lately. And since I've pretty much done everything that can be done performance-wise, it's time to switch gears to visual mods. No other visual mods planned at this time other than this hood and carbon fiber or gloss black side vents.

Not a fan at all of the window. Looks good on the rear deck of a mid engine Supercar. Looks out of place to me on the front hood.

Again, it's a matter of preference. Personally, I like it. And that's why I ordered it.

I'd dress up the engine bay too - or at least what can be seen through the window.

R8's with their clear view of the back engine w/ carbon surrounds have always been a favorite of mine.

I thought about that too. But that carbon fiber engine cover is somewhere in the neighborhood of $3,000! Pretty expensive by anyone's standard. I took my stock plastic engine cover off months ago (for better heat dissipation). But oh my lord, what a hideous monstrosity the cover was well, covering! I've been pondering what to do.... Any ideas?

I hear you. The F-Type engine cover isn't much of a looker. But then Jag never intended for it to be since it is covered up.

Maybe someone can jazz it up for you with a wrap or some paint. Hard call. Really looking forward to seeing your project.

Perhaps look into that Hydro treatment. https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/f...native-164820/

I'm thinking of polishing that SC side heatX that covers the engine. That might dress it up a bit.

Interesting..... If u do it, take pictures of the result. I remember seeing another forum member modify his engine cover with some mesh wiring so that the heat can still dissipate. I was thinking about copying him. Hahaha. I also took the engine cover off of my 2011 XJL-Supercharged. Do u know if the cover is the same fitment? If it is, I'm considering modifying that cover and putting it on the f-type.

Carbon Fiber look Vinyl over the plastic engine cover maybe? Would only cost about $30 to find out if you hate it or not.

Thought about that already. A wrap would melt.

The air vents, whatever finish you decide on, look pretty useful in the real world and the more defined lines look intriguing. It will be great to see how this blends with the original lines of the front end.

The window on the other hand is just wrong on so many levels ;-)

Some like it. Some don't. It may be a generational thing since I am likely one of youngest members of this forum (36). Whatever it is, it comes down to personal preference.

I suggest fake wood panels combined with wrapping doors to give it wood panel look. Make it look like a woodie with a wooden engine. This is guaranteed to attract attention.

As much as I hate engine covers and plastic in the engine bay (my cover is removed) in your case I would leave the stock Jaguar engine cover on. Any type of wrap or paint or modification to it is going to look cheap IMO. Besides, the OEM cover says "supercharged" on it anyways, which you will be able to see through the window, so that should be enough to show off without being able to show the actual SC.
