Default dead differential

the rear diff is pretty loud now, Atlanta jaguar dealership could not hear it but i suspect they did not test drive it but thats another story.
i took it to an indy bmw/merc shop and they test drove it with me and could immediately hear the noise.
currently waiting for them to stethoscope it and submit to warranty company.
i see online differing info on which rear diffs are interchangeable.
is the V6S the same as a regular V6?
is the V8 compatible and which years?
some say up to 2016, some say 2019.
any advice/info appreciated
2015 V6S

V6S is only gonna be replaced by V6S as it's got the limited slip and the shorter 3.31 final drive. Base v6 will be open and a 3.15

For what it's worth I got my V6S diff for like $600 off ebay.

V8 has e-diffs so those aren't gonna work as far as I know. Could be wrong about the RWD models but I know I didn't include them in my search and would have if I'd found they were compatible when researching the subject.

Why would you buy a used diff if covered under warranty?
Are there no OEM units from JLR?

OP has a 2015 so his isn't under warranty anymore.

Mine is a 2018 so still under warranty but it's an open diff and I wanted the LSD and shorter final drive.

Otakar (OP) indicated he was submitting to the warranty company, so presumably has extended warranty.

They say that a lot with aftermarket warranties, but I never once had an aftermarket part put on my M3 nor my 335XI. Though I only took them to dealerships for work, and dealerships usually wont mess with used stuff. YMMV

Im sorry to hear that. I have yet to go to a Jag dealership for anything, but I have heard it can be either okay, or very bad. Hoping for the former...

And many times the dealer experience can be excellent. In my case I noted that in very slow turns I could hear a noise from the differential. My dealer thoroughly checked the complaint: test drive, then attaching microphones (Jaguar service items) to test the differential while on their lift. Diagnosis: there was indeed excess noise from the differential. Result: new OEM diffential ordered and fitted. No questions asked, no problems.
This sort of service has been consistent from my dealer for years and years. Building a relationship with your dealer pays dividends.

My dealer experience has been excellent, but it was only there once to have a recall performed. I do my own routine maintenance and our F is off warranty.

Now that I think about it, I started getting those annoying "buy an extended warranty" calls AFTER they saw our car...

when a dealer wont allow the customer to speak to the mechanic, or test drive the car to show the problems with the mechanic, and all information goes through a 3rd party "service advisor" then its no wonder that none of my issues were satisfied with the dealer.

Meanwhile the week i spent in a hotel and using uber as i had travelled 200 miles to the dealer with no loaner car taught me to stay local and avoid a jaguar dealership.

At least the wasted 1 week 400 mile round trip made the diff so loud, my new indy guy heard it in 3 seconds and agreed with my diagnosis.

Now dont ask me about the dealer and the issue with the door lock!

lol

i had my 2016 R diff replaced under warranty, at San Francisco Jaguar it cost $5000 out the door with parts and labor, at $350/HR. whatever quote you get shouldn't be over 5k considering SF has some of the highest labor rates in the country. Hope that helps.

What were the symptoms of your diff going bad? Anything besides leaking?
