F-Types are exotic cars, if you aren't comfortable reseting an errant code and keeping it on a tender when driven intermittently, it's probably not the car for you.

If you try to buy another car as Jaguar, you will pretty well run into the same problems. Cars becomes year to year more complex and take control over the owner. What resolved into such strange situations as drivers running full speed through highway and not able to stop the car. I was always having Mercedes Cabrio's, my last that I always have was tuned Carlson version and had only minimum from electronics. And I was happy to not have to deal with Eco Start Stop, anti-theft immobilizer and the car connecting itself through simcard to internet. But too much electronics can really take driving pleasure away. As it happend, imagine you have forgot your keyless transmitter lying on a board in the garage. You will start your engine without any problem and 100feet more far away it will strike. Because cars are basically silly, and no vakuum cleaner with a chip was never making intelligent decisions. So, better to have an OBCD2 tool near the hand in case of.. And not only with Jaguar.

With the F-Type, the fob has to be completely inside the passenger compartment to start the engine. However, the car seems to go forever if the fob is left at home. Just don’t shut down the engine.

Car has been scheduled for Monday morning service. I do have extended warranty on it, fingers crossed! As far as the discussion, my 2 cents:

I've had the Ftype for 2 years, bought it with a couple thousand (easy) miles. Fantastic car, really have enjoyed every start (maybe minus the last one). I understand that all cars have their issues, what did shock me however is the lack of indication for what this issue might be. Seems that the car has a light for every possible thing, including low/faulty battery, Anti theft system, etc. I'm assuming that whatever went faulty is further up from any notification/warning, but the fact that (one of) the battery showed full, the radio fully functioned, and the strange behavior of the doors, and the Ebrake light turning on when I pulled the switch, I would have expected a little help from our electronic friends. If you're going to make the car that electric, take away the ability to get to a dead battery because it's in the electrically (only) operated trunk, you damn better have a handle on what may go wrong.

But, I'm just a silly driver popping my exhaust under every bridge around town

Hoping to get her back in one piece.

I used to think that as well, the first thing I did when I got my (both three or four years old at the time) XFS and XFR was stick a new battery in.
But my F-Type is still going strong with the five+ year old original battery in it and I've never had a single battery or electrical system problem.
Two things I reckon for that - it's an AGM (of course all OEM F-Type batteries are AGM!) and I put it on the battery maintainer at least once a fortnight.
I have a feeling the OEM battery will outlast me, but of course I have now mozzed myself!

What is the actual voltage reading across the terminals when checked with a voltmeter with the ignition in the OFF position?

The voltmeter actually read "FULL 13.8v ".

Something wrong there, a healthy fully charged battery measured with an accurate voltmeter should show around 12.6 - 12.7 volts, 13.8 is too high.
I will hazard a guess that the battery was over-charged and that was the main cause of the melt down.

Although this doesn't apply when using remote start.
Annoyingly, once running, the engine stops if you open the boot without unlocking the door first.

The terminals in the engine compartment allow an external power source to be connected to open the luggage compartment and access a dead battery.

yeah I saw this. 4 trucks and 1 car tried to jump it. The battery was full. This didn't help to pop the trunk. Saw a spark too. None of the buttons worked except the radio was on and the lights around it stayed on for 12 hours.

well it's what happened. Wish it wasn't so. Felt like the ecu froze up somehow. Some electrical parts wouldn't shut off, and others wouldn't come on. That battery kept showing full.

Default Quick update!

Finally got ahold of dealership. Techs are looking at it so far they're "baffled". They want 600 dollars just to get the trunk to open. I called Jaguar and started a case. Should hear back today once/if they figure out what the crap happened. She is under certified warranty.

I believe there’s a thread here about a similarly dead F-type, whose trunk couldn’t be opened. Don’t recall how they got in, but I think it was the Central Junction Box, as others have speculated.
