Default Differential is wailing again!

Yes that's right folks the 2nd differential is now wailing! Starts howling slightly after 50-60 miles, at 1500 RPM, with slight push on the gas pedal, it starts to howl. Keep driving it and it wails and makes a mechanical noise of sorts, grinding sound. Runs fine. Stop and let the car sit for 3 hours and restart and you have no noise. Then in about 30 miles the noise is back.

Dealer thinks it is due to a gash I have in one of the tail pipes.....

Oh man. Owning this car is no longer any fun I'm afraid. I'm retiring in several months and was planning a trip up East Coast but am very reluctant to take this car.

That is true! I hope they figure this issue out before it is out of warranty.

I am on my second differential as well. As for oil sample and do oil analysis on old differential fluid. If it comes back with wrong fluid, you will have Ace up your sleeve on your dealer.

Great idea and thanks. What noise or problem did yours present and how many miles on it?
I wonder if it is in danger of locking up and causing crash issues??

....."Dealer thinks it is due to a gash I have in one of the tail pipes.....".
Eh?
How can a gash in a tail pipe cause the diff to wail????
Stick a bit of exhaust bandage over the gash in the tail pipe and see if the noise changes.
