DIY replacement of roof motors/refit of the F-Type convertible roof
Hi all - has anyone on here successfully managed a DIY replacement of a duff convertible motor/module?
Spoke to Jaguar parts, it seems that the rear motor/control modules are £531 a pop and it’s recommended that both sides are replaced at the same time so you’re looking at £1k parts only.
Found a decent place that’s done a few…total quoted cost £2k inc parts and labour.
On the ‘if it was easy, you’d give it a punt’ side it should be possible to get a salvage one for £100 and try one side only….but that’d be a DIY job to be viable I think.
I’ve searched a load of posts on here - had a look at the workshop guide….but has anyone managed to do this themselves?
Or is it such a PITA that £2k is a bargain? 😂

Other side of the pond from you, but I've had a couple small repairs (retention straps, springs) repaired on mine (my previous owner must have liked to operate it going upwind). I couldn't find torque specs for bolts, tension specs for retainer straps and springs, and other technical details about it, so I didn't feel confident taking it apart myself. I took it to a convertible repair shop (https://www.convertiblesonly.com/ in Seattle) and they fixed it for a couple hours' labor cost.
Might be worth checking with some specialist aftermarket places like that, as they can source used parts for you. Those guys in Seattle would probably even help you long-distance.
