Default Do you have to disconnect the battery to pull a fuse like fuse 43?

Hello,

Couldn't find the answer to this but I am trying to pull fuse 43 (active exhaust) which from what I understand is on the passengers footwell under the A pillar.

Question is if I can just pull the fuse without disconnecting the battery. Is it just fuse 43? Nothing else I need to do?

Appreciate the help.

Short answer: No.

Longer answer: It's only a slight issue if whatever the fuse is protecting is powered on at the time it's pulled. If so, a spark may occur, but is harmless at typical current levels.
There's also the assumption that the load being disabled isn't somehow powered through other channels, and that the power flowing from that path doesn't somehow cause mischief by flowing over to fill the supply being disconnected.

No issue with pulling a fuse while the battery is connected.

Especially if the ignition is off.

wouldnt you have to pull it at a moment when you know the exhaust is 'open?'

The valve is definitely open for me and I pulled it when the car was off.

I think the valves open when you turn off your car because its open every time you start the car because otherwise, as you said, it would have just stayed in the closed position when I pulled the fuse.

The valves CLOSE with vacuum pressure created by a vacuum pump (MY13-16) or the engine (MY17+). There is no vacuum when the car is off so the valves are OPEN when the engine is not running. When you pull the fuse, you are either killing the power to the vacuum pump or to the circuit that provides vacuum from the engine, thus keeping them open all the time.

If the exhaust system is anything like my 2021 F Type, you'll know if pulling the fuse resulted in the desired effect almost immediately. On mine, I pulled Fuse # 15 and then got on the State Highway and drove about 10 miles down the mountain. The overall effect was noticeably different than just opening up the exhaust with the button on the center console. Not necessarily louder, but different regarding the RPM range where you could hear it getting louder and different regarding the effect that you get when holding it in one gear at higher RPM's and then letting off the throttle. There was a group of bicyclists riding along the shoulder and when I drove past them and let off the throttle they reacted like someone was firing a Russian PPSh-41 burp gun in their direction.

From what I read newer model years I think from 2019+ are sort of neutered in their exhaust because of new regulations possibly. MY15 exhaust stock is probably still louder (including more pops) than your exhaust with the fuse pulled. Many people mentioned the newer model year F-Types exhausts are a lot more tame so I'm not too surprised you heard a noticeable difference. Maybe sooner than later you're gonna get a muffler delete like me once you get used to that intoxicating popping and exhaust rumble 😬
