Just curious. Had our first experience at the dealer getting our carpet replaced which is another story in it self. When I come to pick up the car after them keeping it for 2 weeks the service adviser tells me the wash rack is down and if I'd like I could come back to get the car washed.. Car is dirty complete with bird crap on the hood. Does anyone think it's worth having the dealer wash your car? I only hand wash the car and I'm not sure on what they use.

 

I never let them do it. Too many chances that they will mark it up.

 

I have no issues with the dealer washing my car. However, I wouldn't take it back just for them to wash it if they couldn't before I picked it up.

 

If you have the usual OCD, just wash it yourself. (Especially if it is a machine wash, with brushes.)
Nice of the dealer to offer though.

OTOH, the local Chevy dealer offers free, lifetime swirl inducers (errr, car washes) for LIFE... with their cars!

Get the droppings off the paint ASAP!

Absolutely will not let my dealer wash my car. I saw a bucket they used once and it looked like the contents had been drawn from a creek.

 

Never. Dealership wash is asking to get your paint scratched.

I have seen some idiot wash wheels and a hood (in that order) of a black car with a same mop without even rinsing it in-between.

 

I always let our Maserati get washed at the Ferrari, Rolls, Bentley, Aston Martin dealer . I figure they have bigger clients to worry about. Our previous Jag dealer also sold Porsche and even offered Sat moring car washes. Current dealer is a mixed bag, they also sell LR which take longer to clean. Not ever scratched but not always a good job.

 

Unless they sneak the wash in before they ask, I never let them do it. I love washing my own cars and know that I'm not going to use dirty rags or run it through a dirty carwash. Just say no to them and take it home. On another note, if I were getting it detailed by a professional and they are at the dealership, then yes I would let them do it.

 

Over on the Pommy forum they have had A4 signs made up that say "DO NOT WASH", to hang from the interior rear view mirror whenever the car is left at a dealership for some reason.
No way in the world would I ever let a dealership wash my car, scratch/swirl/hologram city!

 

+1. I actually made a laminated placard that I leave on the center console(Please Do Not Wash) when I drop the car off for service. I just keep it in the glovebox.

 

Normally I wash the car by myself. But my JLR-Dealer washes the car by hand with polish after it. No problems yet.
So no machine-wash, just by hand.

 

nope, my car is wrapped so I always tell them don't wash.

 

My dealer does hand wash also but I think the guys in back get swamped by LR

 

I never let the dealer wash my car or take it to a car wash. I take it to my detailer to wash and detail the exterior and interior each spring ($150). I enjoy hand washing the car the rest of the time and it only takes about 45 minutes. I always wash the car before I take it for service and I hang a Do Not Wash placard on the rear view mirror.

NEVER ever let the dealer wash your car..... They hire idiots who work for minimum wage who have no idea how to properly wash a car. I watched once and looked at what they were using on someone else's car. An old dirty wash mitt that was used over and over again on every car and a grungy towel to dry, by some kid who could care less what he was doing.

I too insist on "NO WASH" and will also add a laminated card advising to not wash ( good idea)

 

I always let the dealer wash it. It goes in once a year, so one wash a year I can't get too worried about. I mean seriously the dealer is selling a few high priced cars to an upscale clientele. I expect they pay attention to what is going on. Fortunately I have a very high quality dealer where I live. Besides I have never had a problem with any car being washed by the dealer.

In the spirit of full disclosure, I don't think my father ever washed a car in his life. In the Fall he would take it in to be waxed (Simonized, in his vocabulary) and that was it.

Now other than that one annual visit, I really like having the car washed at the house. Guy pulls up with his van and does the car. Saves me a lot of time and effort. I don't need to worry about any damage being done as I might at the local express wash. Its a on-on-one transaction with a guy that works for me and a lot of the neighbors. Reasonably priced and I know him and he knows me.

In another thread, the poster says he uses distilled water and a sprayer. Didn't specify if the water was foreign or domestic. Geesh.
