Door threshold molding pulling away - need clips
Hi All,
First, apologies for my rotten pics. If I need to try again, I will. The rubber weather-stripping/molding has pulled away from the door sill area. I can't push it in and I thought it should just fit into the channel. My guess is my clumsy getting in and out had my foot hitting it. Upon further inspection, it looks like there are white clips that fit into the holes in the rubber weather-stripping and then push into the panel on the car. I pulled them out to try and reseat them, but it seems like they are one use only. I'm looking for help with either locating the plastic clips or other ideas to get the molding to stay put. As always, I thank you for your time. If it matters, it's for a 2020 Checkered Flag edition. I'd go to the dealer and ask them, but you know how that will go.
I just addressed this on my car. I found that not only were some clips broken, but he weather stripping itself was split at many of the clips, meaning new clips would do nothing to help. I just bought new weather stripping. The best price I found was at Palm Beach Jaguar.
This is a common problem and there are posts/threads about it around here somewhere.
I remember one where I pointed a member at a web page to buy the right size and shape of those clips.
As long as the stripping is not split around the holes the clips go into (and yes it is easy to split around those holes if you are not careful when pulling the stripping off/back) then replacing any missing or broken clips should do the trick.
The moral of the story is don't just yank on the stripping, instead carefully pull it back a little to expose each clip one at a time then gently pull the clip out by grapping it with needle-nosed pliers. Alternatively a trim removal tool might work but I didn't try that.
Also when inserting new clips into the stripping make sure they are 100% seated properly (with the base under the rubber and the smaller tang on top of the rubber), the prong is pointing straight out at 90 degrees and not angled, carefully line up the prong with the hole then gently press into place, if done right you should feel/hear a satisfying small "click".

Yeah it's a stupid design. Edges are way too sharp for a flexible strip. Should've been more circular like most other clips.
Alternatively, if you don't feel like buying an entirely new strip, you can use black rubber sealants they sell at Autozone and fill the cracks. It should give you a few more years.
Best price I found was at Land Leaping JLR Parts reseller.

This happened to me a few months ago. You can get generic clips which are sturdier on Amazon. I also used 3M automotive grade double side tape for additional robustness:
Clips
3M Tape
Make sure you clean the mounting surfaces before applying the tape. I then used a narrow trim tool (the top part of a cheap pen would work) to work the weather stripping back into the "groeve" and ensure the double sided tape made full contact and the clips snapped in.

Thanks all for the advice. I actually am in West Palm for vacay and stopped by the Jag dealer. Looks like their only option was to buy the entire piece of weather stripping as the clips are not sold separately. Given the rubber on mine is in good shape, I would prefer to buy clips (doesn't have to be from Jag) and try that. The parts guy did mention some type of 3M double sided tape but wasn't specific on which one. He said they have something they use on the McLarens that they call "200 mph" tape. If one of you have some specifics on the clips or tape hat would work and where to get them, I'd appreciate it if you can share the info. I'm a little hesitant to run a line of glue down the track in case something happens later where the door sill needs to be pulled and I've glued it to the car. As always, thanks for your time.

Be really careful if when removing or inserting clips as the weatherstripping can tear very easily. If I recall insert vertically then rotate 90 degrees but it has been a year since I did it.
THANK YOU SO MUCH. For $11 I bought the Ford weatherstrip clips and they are holding. The rubber was torn a bit from when the original ones were pulled out by my foot, but these went right in. If the opening on the rubber gasket causes them not to hold, I can always use an adhesive on the rubber to close up the hole around the clip. As always, I appreciate all the help and info users of this forum provide.
