I've been to the wednesday night drags quite a few times in my R and it is a blast! I've tried all of the combinations and here is what I have learned:

- Don't try to apply the accelerator while standing on the brake to increase torque on launch...it only freaks out the traction control and will cause a big pause at launch (car cuts power significantly for a moment)
- keep traction control on. wheel spin is your enemy and it is already very tricky with the R
- ease into the throttle, a very little of wheel spin is actually optimal, but not too much
- don't use the paddles, sport mode will shift optimally
- lower your tire air pressure (going to have to try different amounts). low 30's seems to work well (but weather conditions change all of this)
- less gas in the tank the better (lighter)
- proper timing of the tree takes time

my best time is 11.72, but I can almost always do sub-12's, which is very respectable for a street car.

The R makes an awesome sound and gets lots of compliments, as it is not common to see one at the drag strip

Enjoy...

Default Staging the F-TYPE

I really appreciate you kicking in your experience feedback. I went from an Infiniti G-35 that I was able to deep stage and get excellent tree light times consistently.

this AWD sucks up approximately .642 seconds before the torque actually trips the lights; ergo the where & how to stage it issue.

last season I worked with deeper and deeper staging along with less fuel but could not find a workable combination. It was embarrassingly frustrating. I'm really consistent with the 11.78 time area but can't find the right staging combination.....

Took my SVR drag racing today and managed a best time of 11.3s which I am quite happy with as car is stock apart from a lightweight lipo battery.

Default 1st gear dynamic sport mode

2017 SVR
At start,, dynamic sport mode, use gear lever to put it into S1.... Naiil the gas, should the trans shift through the gears down the 1/4 mile? Or will it simply hold 1st?

Id' put it in S and not S1. Leave it in Auto and there is no way first gear will take you to the roughly 120 mph you'll hit at the end of 1/4 mile.

Simply putting it in S will start the car in 2nd gear though. My intent is to start it in first gear, and then have the car automatically shift through the rest of the gears ….

My understanding and experience is that yes it starts in 2nd but as soon as you flatten it or at least push the go pedal hard enough to trigger the kick down switch it down changes to 1st and it does this so fast you can't pick the change.

The only sure fire way to monitor which gear is being used is by using something like SDD.

People have been adamant in the past that the X150 XK's and XKR's start in 2nd gear but I demonstrated by using SDD in both my 4.2 litre XKR and 5 litre XKR that they actually drop in to first when they comes to a rest.

Snow mode uses 2nd but normal drive, Dynamic and Sport in auto mode all start in 1st.

I think people get confused because it you use the flappy paddles to control the gears but don't bother changing down when you come to a halt the box will only automatically go as low as 2nd as you come to a halt.
