Great video, epic trailer at the start! Wonder how many featured in the video continue to own an F-type. Thanks for the link and context.
Thanks! It’s actually a good question. I’ve kept in touch with most of the attendees over the years—not all and many have remained close friends (one of the benefits from this forum and my hosting a total of 9 events over the years) and know for a fact many have either kept their original F-Type or moved on to a newer model. Me? I ❤️ my 2015 Stratus Grey V6S and have no plans to ever sell it.
To others on this forum: HOST AN EVENT!
Best regards,
Jay
P.S. While we, as a group, have literally a few thousand fabulous photos from over the years—a few “for eyes only”—after viewing this video I wish others in our group had a GoPro to help document all of our escapades. Then again, I am all for being in the moment. There is only NOW.
Here’s some remarkable (IMO) drone video of the 2017 Lobster Run, in downtown Portland ME. Thanks to Zach for shooting/editing this. Good times! And glad I had a hat on so you can’t see my bald spot...
A late winter drive in Middle Tennessee...I seek out these roads instead of the freeway with the added bonus of a quick roadside bathroom break being available.
My apologies for picking up on an old post but the car in the image is a 2015 F/Type V8 R Convertible RWD, I cant find any others with this exact spec RWD being the rarity, most being in the "S" format AWD.
My question to you is as you have been around for a while is have you ever come across an F Type in this format.
All F-types built in 2014 & 2015 are RWD. AWD was not introduced until 2016.
Jag named the 2014 & 2015 V8 covertibles the "V8 S".
2015 was the first year for the coupe and they named the V8 coupe the "R".
Starting in 2016, Jaguar called all the V8 cars regardless of coupe or covertible "R" or "SVR" and dropped the V8 S moniker for the covertible. Incidently Jag also did not produce any V8 RWD cars in 2016, 2017, 2018 , & 2019 ( I don't know when they started back up offering RWD V8 cars again...2020?) .
Thanks for the reply, the car is100% a V8 R RWD late August
1. Electronic power steering (S was Hydraulic)
2. 542 bhp (now 650bhp)
3 .Active exhaust (absent on the S)
4. Different info screen
Will have to go to the factory and get this sorted.
Thanks again
There was no "R" convertible for the 2015 model year and the V8 "S" models do have active exhaust (V8 S was the top spec available for convertibles for 2014 & 2015). The 2014/2015 V8S (converitble only) is the same spec (seats, brakes, diff, suspension, interior) as the 2015 "R" (coupe-only) detuned to 495hp and badged as "S".
99.99% sure the 2015 "R" has hydrolic power steering.
Jag did not make a RWD R in 2016, so it is unlikely that you have a 2016 model spec. that was registered/titled as a 2015 becuase it would have been AWD. Unless your car is not realy RWD - the hood vents are correct, right?
You should run your vin through JLR or look at the door tag with the build date.
So that leaves four options:
1) The prior owner rebadged the V8 S replacing the "S" with "R" or
2.) You have a rebuilt frankenstien car made out of a 2015 & 2016 parts.
2) JLR did something different for the UK market - which doesn't explain why there are no other 2015 "R" convertibles, or
3) You truely have a unicorn that needs further documentation from JLR to establish provenance.
Here's a link to the 2016 Jag F-type sale brocucher and you'll see that the "R" is now offered in both coupe and convertible and that the "S" trim is now only available for V6 models & the "V8 S" models no longer exist: https://www.motorologist.com/wp-cont...e.brochure.pdf
Here's the 2015 model line up:

Your information is for the U.S. Market. In the UK, as well as other parts of the world, the model years are often different. In the UK, you could absolutley get an R in the 2015 model year.
Wow thanks so much for your input in this.
I found this today.
Yes, Jaguar did manufacture 2015 F-Type V8 R Convertible models with rear-wheel drive (RWD). While all-wheel drive became standard on the V8 models from 2016 onwards, the 2015 model year offered both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive options for the F-Type R. Specifically, only 1364 of the rear-wheel drive F-Type R convertibles were produced for the US market in 2015.
Rarity:
The 2015 rear-wheel drive F-Type R is considered relatively rare, particularly the convertible version, with only 1,364 units sold in the US.
Could not find numbers in the UK
Feels like I may be getting somewhere now.
Again thanks for your help.
Dont believe what I say.
Google it.
How Many 2015 Jaguar F Type V8 R RWD Convertible
In 2015, Jaguar built 2891 rear-wheel drive (RWD) F-Type R models worldwide. Of those, 1364 were specifically built for the U.S. market. This model is considered quite rare and special. It's important to note that the F-Type R was also available as a coupe and with all-wheel drive (AWD) in 2015, in addition to the RWD Convertible.
In 2015, Jaguar built 1,364 rear-wheel-drive F-Type V8 R convertibles for the U.S. market and 2,891 worldwide. While Jaguar built a total of over 87,000 F-Types, the 2015 V8 R RWD convertible was a relatively limited production model.
Do me a favor and run your VIN through Kelly Blue Book, KBB.com and see what it spits out about the model year, model, options etc.
It will spit out something like this:
Also Google AI spits out the same info regardless if you say 2015 RWD F-type R coupe or F-type R covertible so it is WRONG. There was never a RWD F-type R convertible. Also, Jag did not introduce AWD in the F-type until 2016 - again google AI is wrong and giving incorrect info.
Google AI also gives wrong AWD info regarding the F-type. If you ask did Jaguar make an AWD F-type in 20214 it says. "No...The AWD option became availble in later model years, specifically from the 2016 model year on-wards for the V8 models". Although if you ask "did Jaguar make an AWD V8 F-type in 2015?" Google AI will say "yes" which is incorrect.
Google: " Did Jaguar make a rwd v8 convertible in 2015" and see what it says.
Yes, 1,364 RWD R's were delivered to the US and ZERO were AWD models in 2015 and ZERO were convertibles. Also 1,364 units is not "rare" for the F-types as it is a low production vehicle (google AI uses the adjective "rare" comparing overall F-types not the R variant as being rare). In fact, only 508 2014 V8s were delivered to the U.S. so you can argue that's more "rare".
Here's the google search results it's the exact same regarless if you search for convertible or coupe:
Here's the production numbers for 2015 (again):
