Default Dumb battery drain question.

Locked or unlocked, which uses more power?
Always wondered this with my old XKR, but the F seems to be alive all the time.
I'm not going to leave it unlocked when I'm not nearby just wondered if it's unlocked when I'm around at home will it use more or less power than locked, or is there no difference?
Not talking about CTek and long term.

I cannot prove this but I have been told at several dealers that modern cars draw more current unlocked. They go on to say that not everything goes to sleep if the car is unlocked. I know I should never trust what I hear at a dealer.

I think you are correct - on both issues

Default idle/sleep mode

what I was told on my Range Rover was that car when locked would remain alive for about 4 hrs and then would only check systems at an ever increasing timescale ending up at once per day.

Not a dumb question at all as most of us have the same question.

My current issue, after i accessed the OBD to clear the CEL, I'm having the recharge battery warning almost every time. I know the OBD and battery are linked per previous threads but I wonder how long the interior lights stay on after it has been locked. Peering inside my car at night, i can see the yellow door lock light on and the red hazards on.

I don't see why any of them are on as they seem to be a drain.

ISTR that Land Rover LR3 goes to "sleep" after about 30 minutes of inactivity if the vehicle isn't explicitly locked and the doors remain undisturbed. I would have imagined Jaguar follow something similar unless the OBD port access causes it to stay awake regardless....

Most of the F-Types experience that problem after an OBD port access unless the battery is subsequently disconnected. Disconnect the negative battery cable for about 10-20 seconds. After that you will notice the illuminated hazard warning switch will go dark after about 5 minutes. That means everything is working again. just remember the procedure next time someone plugs into your OBD port.

Forum Admin: Could we please get a sticky thread for this issue? It comes up every few weeks.

Locked just shuts things down faster. I've left the car unlocked in the garage for a couple weeks with no battery warnings. The warning lights come on overnite if the Battery Control Module has gone wonky, even if it's locked.

Hibernation occurs after 10 minutes if locked, and after 20 minutes if unlocked.
