Was out for a drive today at dusk a short while ago. Got out of the car and looked back, only to notice something that I honestly never noticed before. I don't think that this pic really does it justice, but it really surprised me how different this Eiger Grey colour looks in the evening hours when the sun is a bit more down. I don't do a lot of dusk/night driving, so I've never really noticed it. It changes quite a bit, and it looks even nicer in my view. Now if I could just get it to stay that way during full daylight I'd be all set ;-0
Anyway, kinda surprised me how different it looked.
I have stratus grey and it looks black at night. In daytime is deep metallic grey with metal flake really visible.
Ah, nice, very nice. Wow, now that is a deep grey. I hadn’t seen that grey. I guess they haven’t done that since back at the beginning of the development cycle perhaps? Like that. It definitely does look black in some lights…
Anyway, this picture I posted is not really doing a good job capturing what my eye saw. It almost had subtle hues of purplely deep grey or something. Hard to describe. I’ve had this car for a bit now, so I’m just surprised I hadn’t noticed this before. It looked reallly nice. Most of the time I just drive into the garage too, where I wouldn’t have noticed. Just happened to park it in the driveway this time for a brief moment because I needed to do something in the garage.
Jaguar paint is really amazing imho. If you asked Porsche to do something like this...it might cost an extra 20k...an underrated part of Jaguars for sure. Thanks for sharing.
You are describing what photographers call the golden hour perhaps...

You know, I remember thinking the same when I took delivery of this car from the dealer. I’m not a paint expert by any means, but it did look absolutely incredible, and my PPF guy made the comment to me that he thought it was very good…I suppose those guys would notice those sorts of things…
As for Porsche, OMG, their pricing in general these days…I think you’re probably right about that. As you say, Jaguar probably hasn’t gotten a lot of credit for the things they did do right in recent decades, as they’ve been too busy wearing their past problems that people will just not let go of. Current affairs at the company aren’t helping ;-0 LOL

I don't think I've EVER gotten out of my car and not looked back ...... I think its an action shared by all F Type owners. Love your F, btw -- it looks fantastic!

Oh I look back, but it’s typically at the car sitting in my dimly lit garage. I almost never look back at the car sitting in those beautiful lighting conditions I saw last night is all, as it is usually just driven directly into the garage upon my return.
All car folks are the same. We all buy our cars because we love the looks/vibe of the car. The glance back is mandatory ;-o lol
There were 3 early metallic colors that were Zryillic(?) paint, a specialized flake. Stratus, a deep red ,and the orange. The company that made it was wiped out in the Japan tsunami. It was available again later, probably from another manufacturer.

Close but no cigar.
It is Xirallic paint and yes the Tohoku tsunami in 2011 kyboshed production of it for several years.
My 2010 XFR was Kyanite Blue which is/was Xirallic and IMHO (totally unbiased of course!) it was one of the best Jag colours ever and it is a shame Jag never reintroduced it.
Are your sure that Lunar Grey paint is Xirallic?
Coz my F-Type is almost identical to that one, 2015 V6S in Lunar Grey with Red seats, and this is the first time anyone has suggested that Lunar Grey is Xirallic!
And a quick search of the interwebz comes up with zero mention of it being Xirallic, rather it refers to Lunar Grey as simply metallic.

Oh sorry, I shouldn’t have confused the 2. No, I just made the comment about Xirallic and posted the Lunar YT link below it. I was just curious what the Lunar looked like, and thought others might be as well and thought I’d post the link. I can see how you got confused, my bad…

No worries!
Your Eiger Grey is similar to Lunar Grey just a bit darker, you could say it is the final stop on the progression of F-type silvery grey colours over the years.
I think they went through some seven or eight subtle changes with Lunar being the first and Eiger the last.
Lunar also changes a bit depending on the lighting intensity and position and it really pops in bright sunlight.
It was never my preferred colour and I bought the car coz it ticked all the other boxes for me but the colour has really grown on me over the years and now I really like it.

I’m a real sucker for greys on sportier cars. Porsche Agate Grey is probably one of my favourites.
Fantastic choice! Love that colour too. In the end it was between Carpathian and Eiger when I was deciding. I had loosely considered that green colour they had for the last year as well, but I just couldn’t do it. Mainly because I could find no way to see one in person ahead of putting in my order slot.

The “looking back at the Jaguar” is by no means restricted to F-Type owners, it is a common, almost universal and characteristic behaviour of Jaguar owners regardless of the model or the age of the Jaguar they own. Why? Because Jaguars generally instill in the owners an insatiable awareness of their elegance and beauty of design; this is definitely NOT a general trait of owners of other marques. I say this as the owner of many Jags and of Mercedes and BMW.
