Default Email from JLR about upgrading the Nav Mapping Program

Have others received this email from JLR about updating the InControl Nav mapping in your car for $200?

https://jaguar.navigation.com/sku/T1...ce=JAG-EM-1119

If so and if someone has done it, I would be interested in hearing your thoughts on its benefits.

They are requesting the individual vehicle VIN so they can provide the appropriate update.

Thanks,

Please note that website's certificate and domain are *.navigation.com and this does not appears to be affiliated with Jaguar.

Its from Jaguar. I didn't include the email message because it has my name is on it, the year of my car and my VIN number.

It also says that you can purchase through your local Jaguar retailer by doing ... and provides a telephone number to call and order. When you call the number it's Jaguar.

I did an update after 3 years (2016), and I may do it again (though the car is in winter storage.) Update is on an USB stick, takes 1-2 hours to install. I did it over a couple of commutes; it can resume on its own if the car is shut off before it’s done.

I update occasionally as I like the nav system to know about new exits, bypasses, etc. Care less about updating POIs, though that’s useful too.

I received the same email - free shipping.

So DJS, you think it was worth the $200 and you are going to do it again?

If only Jaguar would include Waze on their list of available apps...and reinstate Spotify. There is a Jaguar supported app (Genius Maps), but I've never tried it. I may give it a try just to compare to Waze and the one that came with the car.

If you are an engaged, attentive driver, always aware of your surroundings and destination, you can get by fine with outdated maps.

EXAMPLE If a freeway interchange has been reconfigured, knowing that you expect to find "US Route 1" and actually READING road signs (remember them? ) will keep you on course.

Still, I agree that Using Google Maps or WAZE is easier regards finding the latest address/location of a business or other entity. I check that out BEFORE turning on the ignition.

My satnav hasn't worked at all for going on two years now (long story and no fault of the car or JLR) and I don't miss it at all, I just use Waze instead.

I updated mine a year ago at about 1/2 that price. Check with michael@oldjaguar.com (one of our mod's)

I've updated once since I got the car, last year, I think. I only use the nav system a few times a year, but being told to turn left when it should have been right was pretty aggravating. Updating every year? Nope. Not at that price.

Most of the time I look at a map before I go somewhere new and commit to memory important landmarks, intersections, and features.

Mostly agree, though I don’t use my phone much while in the car. Likely not worth $200 for a lot of folks. One reason I do it every 3 years (or less.)

And, just because I occasionally update the maps doesn’t mean I’m helpless without them. I happen to like maps.
