Default Software Enhancements letter received

Got a letter from JLR. They want me to bring my car in for software enhancements. Sounds like a recall.

There are TSB or Campaigns that aren't really a recall. Software enhancements could be things like the service required indication not being accurate - that seems to be a common one. Typically dealers take care of those during routine service visits but maybe they haven't seen you for a while. It's not compulsory....

I got the letter yesterday. I suspect it is a proactive attempt to get all the TSBs installed into as many vehicles as possible all at once (more efficient to do all the TSBs at once). This might include the service cycle light issue, O2 sensor programming, Meridian fix, fuel canister hose, etc.

I got the same letter on my '16 Range Rover Sport, but you're right, they did quite a few "enhancements" when I took it in for routine service a couple of months ago.

Also, in December I took the Jag in for it's yearly service and they said they needed to do the canister hose TSB, or is it a recall? They didn't have the parts so they said they will call me when they're available, nothing yet. Is this vital? Should I give them a call?

I was in no rush to have it done, and reluctant in case they induced some rattles in the process. But they did it without my prior knowledge when it was in for another issue. Fortunately, no rattles ensued.

I get the impression from the letter that this is a serious update to the infotainment system. The back side of the letter indicates that it isn't limited to software and that hardware could be switched out.

The only hardware one for me was the canister hose which the dealer had in stock. I had to have the firmware updated in my telematics and audio modules in order for JustDrive to launch as I have an early 2016 model which just missed the update in the factory. They also aligned the hood with the fender better per another TSB. I don't think there's anything Danger Will Robinson there, Jaguar just seem to be proactive in improving the driver experience.

Fortunately there is no TSB for "customer reports insufficient grin when using gas pedal..."

I got the letter for my 2016 S manual.
I am waiting though as I need other work that awaits jaguars convenience to send the parts (hopefully before 2017 comes to an end).

+1. Anyone, that's had this done, have a definitive list from dealer of what is updated or checked?

It will consist of canister hose, maintenance message update, oxygen sensor(may have already done that) and software update to" make the car a better car".

I have an May 2016 production car for the 2017 model year. Wondering if I'll get such a notice letter.

Thumbs down Navi Update worsening!

Just had my MY16 F-Type S Coupe at the dealer for first ever inspection/service a year after buying it. They said there are two TSB to be done, one for the stereo and the other for the head-unit or nav, I'm not sure anymore...

Anyway, I have the 380-Watts Meridian stereo in it which isn't bad, but also not really satisfying either. The update makes the system sound probably a bit improved, no enlightenment...

Concerning SatNav I've first only noticed the arrows and route line display on the map isn't bright green anymore but dark blue. Not the smartest change. But then after a while I noticed the rest of the system really get's sluggish, mostly when navigation is active... touch presses in the interface take around 1 to 2 seconds until something happens. Voice guidance is muting music for around 3 seconds until the actual announcements is heard and if multiple guidances are played they get cut off! Sometimes the music muting doesn't stop and return to full music, but hangs and the volume knob is stuck at regulating navigation volume! Additionally the cluster display stays blank on the horizontal line, no music info and no navi info anymore. I need to shut down the car for a couple of minutes to remedy the situation...

This is not acceptable at all and I'm calling the dealer today!

Has anybody else once experienced such behaviour from the on-board entertainment system?

Cheers
Lyndon

Did everyone get a letter? I didn't. Last time in they did the maint msg thing and ordered the canister thing.

I'm interested in the software update that will make the car a better car.

Can anyone describe what the software update does (more specifically)?

You need JLRTSB007SVRNA1 which when loaded into lower model F-Types through SDD or PathFinder will transform it into an SVR. The download is 1PB and you have to leave the car with the dealer for a week though ;-)

Ah if only...

Software update was just the maintenance schedule indicator.

I've received a recall for the seatbelt tensioner. I guess they are replacing the explosive charge that tightens the belt in a collision. Hopefully they didn't accidentally use C4 or something. Boom. :-)

They inadvertently installed the 007 ejector seat explosives in a number of production units.
