Default Engine Dead at 26k Miles! This happened to anyone else?

Hello all,

I have some sad news to share. My 2014 F-Type S with only 26k miles on it died last week. The dealership officially confirmed the engine died and that it will have to be fully replaced with a new $50k engine.
The dealer couldn't tell me much as to what happened but once the old engine gets back to the factory they will completely dissect it and dig into the root issue. Thank God for warranties huh?!

I'm curious, has this happened to anyone else and if so what was your experience like? Are the newer engines more reliable? Any tips on engine break-in?

We’ve had maybe 3 reports of engines needing to be replaced. As they’ve been under warranty, we generally don’t get any details.

Your whole car is probably worth $50k; I assure you the engine doesn't cost that much...

Looks like you can get a used newer and high powered engine for around $9,500: https://www.ebay.com/itm/14-18-JAGUA...oAAOSwJo5bKRcs It is always fun to look this stuff up.

Yes, a couple reports here, one case reported oil starvation issue. Unfortunately, the car doesn't warn you when it runs low on oil.

Someone else was just in here talking about a $50,000 engine. Where the hell is this price tag coming from?

The site below has it for $17 thousand. Dealer price plus installation would be more, but should be nowhere near $50 thousand.

That $9000 R engine is tempting - could get it and make a monster build from there....

+1. It shouldn't cost $33k to install an engine.

That is robbery. I wonder what Jaguar would charge for a new V8?

You were told 3 extraordinary Lies by the ethically challenged.
1. The engine wont be dissected, nor shipped to any factory.
2.An engine does not die. All parts are designed to be replaceable.
3. It cost $15K for a v8sc

I think in law they call it 'dirty hands' rule.
On the street we ask why is this crack dealer climbing a tree to tell a lie.....

The answer is he is building you up to charge you for this not supposedly covered by warranty.

Sad news but oh, man, be thankful under warranty! Oh long will the swap-out take?

All good to know. In the end isn't a good thing to get a brand new engine though? Also, won't the engine be somewhat new with some type of small upgrades since the one I had is now 4 years old?

in my case i was in for my yearly service and after waiting longer then usual i was informed they found all sorts of metal in the filter. let me drive it home, brought it back 2 weeks later and they had it most of the winter, but i wasn't in a hurry and i told them that (it would have just been in storage anyways). All my service was up to date (short of the yearly i was in for when it was diagnosed) and it was full of oil, no check engine lights, ran great, i was honestly floored. Only warning was a few rough starts and very very faint rattle noise at only a certain RPM (assumed a heat shield or general rattle).

Interesting. I didn't have any warning lights either. Did they give you a new warranty that covered the new engine and if so what were the details?
