Question Engine Light On, Off for 2 weeks, On again

Few weeks back I took my car to dealer Amber Engine Light on. Came up as an O2 Sensor. Took car home (they didn't have a replacement there, has to be ordered)

2 days later, Engine Light goes off....and stayed off for 2 weeks. Now it's back on. Any ideas on why that would happen

happened to me too, first time they replaced the o2 sensor, 2nd time it happened the light went away and never came back. I think something in the fuel system is tripping the light. Mixture or some such thing. I did note that The first time it came on I was immediately after I tapped the shifter over to go into sport mode. Maybe the sensor is getting pulsed out of spec. I dunno seems to reset after multiple start ups and shut downs, had them check it when it went in for last oil change and they said everything checked out. Just a sensitive sensor is my guess.

Keep an eye on it, if the check engine light blinks it might be more serious, but they told me if it's constantly on the car is drivable and not a major deal. I suspect if like mine is will resolve itself. Make sure your gas cap is secure too.

As I recall, the factory decided that the fault detection on the O2 sensors was too sensitive and was throwing "false" codes. There was a software update for that, probably in 2016-1017. Later, the O2 sensor warranty cover was extended significantly, but if you haven't had the update you could get intermittent CELs.

I believe that the O2 recalibration update was the infamous K309, which reduced/eliminated pops and cracks for many who got it. My car got K309B in 2016, which made no noticeable difference to exhaust noise, but I haven’t replaced an O2 sensor since (2 replaced prior to that.)

I won't even risk that! half the fun of the car is the noise! Thanks for the tip

Default O2 sensor and PCV valve

The MY2017 V-6, manual trans that I have threw a code back in December that also brought up the CEL and a "reduced performance" message in the instrument cluster. Not sure at the time if it was another O2 sensor (I think I read that there are 6 of them??, at least in my v-6, makes sense) or something else. This time it was a bad PCV valve and it was replaced under warranty. AFter I got the car back, a few months later, (long story, but good outcome) the CEL came on again. This time it was due to 'old' gas, and a fresh tank banished the light. Be aware that a CEL can also come on if you are not tightening your fuel cap correctly. The older ones FWIU required three clicks, the new one I have only clicks once, and barely. On a related note, my 2013 Golf's CEL came on, with either the PCV or the cap being the culprit. Bad PCV symptoms (on that car) were hard to start and rough running, no evidence of that, so I went with a bad cap (it's ONLY 9 years old!) A new cap resolved the issue for the Golf.

As a footnote to this discussion, should the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Light) begin to flash whilst driving, catalyst damage is occurring. Find and correct the source of the misfire(s).

MIL - aka 'check engine light', 'cel', etc.

There are four (4) oxygen sensors fitted to the X152: one before and one after each catalyst.
