Engine start warmup times

Default Engine start warmup times

I have owned this car for a year now and since the beginning I have thought the high idle on initial startup was excessive.
Regardless of ambient temp the car stays at high idle for what seems like an eternity on initial startup or if the car sits for an hour. No other vehicles I have owned stay at high idle this long unless it’s really cold outside and the idle times are much shorter in the summer, but the Jaguar doesn’t seem to care about the ambient temp.
Is this normal or something that can be adjusted in the programming?
The ambient temp was 86 F for this startup.

Not sure what your image is showing, but my idle drops within a minute of startup, often less time when warm.

I am not talking about the initial vroom at startup, I am measuring the sustained high idle of about 1200 RPM’s before it drops back to normal RPM.

If it bothers you or too noisy move the shifter to drive or reverse then back to park again. I have to do that regardless early in the AM so neighbors don't revolt.

That's what I'm talking about, too. If I remember(!), I'll time mine next time I start it. I've never considered mine to stay at high revs for an excessive time, though.

I have done that a couple times but thought maybe it wasn’t the best for transmission?

Thanks, I am really just curious more than anything but the long startups are a bit annoying.

Mine drops from around 1,200 rpm at cold start up to the normal idle rpm of around 650 in less then 20 seconds almost every time I start it.
Staying at 1,200 rpm for a minute after start up just seems wrong to me unless the ambient temp is waaay low.

ya mine stays up fairly long as well, but like someone previously said, once you put it into gear it will drop down, but if you do it right at the beginning it will lunge you forward. Tmmr morning I will time how long it takes my V6S and get back to you.

That’s how my other vehicles behave also.

Mine idles up pretty high for quite a long time as well. I think it is normal. Would not worry about it. It lasts about the same as my 997 TT and Cayenne S, so not worried. Gets that oil pumping through the engine before you pull off.

A minute is not very long....."That's what she said" ...

I timed mine from stone cold - 1 minute 1 second.

Mine did 33 seconds start to idle this Saturday at 5 AM stone cold - not started for 6 days. Garage ambient temp was 74, outside 59.

Restest - same day, Saturday late evening (9P) after sitting all day for detailing inside with doors open until 6 PM when sun hit rear of car during detail - cold start at 76 degrees ambient, outside at 79 with high of 83 for the day, to idle - 31 seconds.

Rougly the same as all our cars from cold start inside insulated garage to idle. We never put into gear until steady low idle.

Never timed mine, but it always seemed excessive. Especially when I was ready to go, but I never wanted to cut it short, as I too thought it wouldn’t be good for it!

I’m not certain one really needs to wait on it. Just keep the car in a lower gear for a minute or two while driving away, and don’t push it until it’s up to full operating temp.

I think its deliberate to get the cat converters fired up and working.

Interesting that there seems to be some variations. Makes me wonder if it is a parameter in the software that can be adjusted?

It's definitely an emissions thing and probably can't be adjusted.

I'm thankful for my clutch pedal to manually control load on the engine and quiet it down manually

My 2014 XFR takes 60 seconds to drop to normal idle

when cold starts I let it idle for two minutes summer time, and 4 -5 minutes winter time
