Default Exhaust loudness

Hey friends

i noticed that exhaust loudness changes as the engine comes to the operating temperature. When start driving with cold engine and bypass valve open - exhaust does loud barks and spits and crackles when you lift off. As the engine comes to the operating temperature exhaust becomes quieter and loud barks almost disappear when you lift off the throttle. Maybe crackles remains.
anyone noticed it?

Really? My MY!8 is no quieter with a warm engine than when cold. In fact it's louder when warm as I don't stress the engine until it's warmed up. Which model and year do you have? That might make a difference.

Usually, engines run 'richer' (more fuel) before normal operating temp is reached.

More fuel = more pops on over-run. So it makes some sense that you could hear more noise under those conditions. I would think that the difference would be subtle, if the engine management had everything 'under control'.

Mines the same way. 2018 R. Pops and crackles lessen as it heats up. They don’t go away, just less.

A cold car will have less efficient gas burn (i.e. more un-burnt fuel exiting). As other have mentioned there is the startup 'roar' which is part theater and part warming up the catalytic converters. I would expect there to be a little less pops when the car is warmed up but it shouldn't be significant.
