Default Exterior Door Handle issue

New to the forum, and I have searched, but I cannot seem to find someone that has had the issue I am experiencing

2014 F-Type, 41K miles. Passenger side door handle will go spastic and close/open 3-5 times before it stops while car is unlocked. Sometimes it will attempt to close while you are opening the door. Quite the surprise for some one when the cat tries to bite you!

The dealer has not seen the issue before, and it is going back for other items like a software update to enable the satellite radio I have adder (OEM Jag components) and why I am getting CEL that self clear.. I don't have the ODB II reader. I would hope to point them in the right direction.

Anyhow, has anyone had this type of intermittent issue?

TIA

Obligatory 'Did you turn it off and back on?' post-

I'd start with the battery

There are switches to detect end of travel in each direction, so I'd guess they are either misaligned or have bad contact/connection. I've seen this happen with doorlocks on a few other cars I've worked on. Provided the usual things have already been checked (reboot car, battery ok, headlight fluid topped-up, etc)

+1. Years ago I had a Dodge Durango with a door lock switch that failed. The vehicle acted like it was possessed. All the doors would randomly lock and unlock as you were driving down the road and even sometimes when it was just sitting.

I don't know the hardware/software configuration on the F-Type doors, but worked on both hardware and software for similar purposes (high-security doors where software needed to know if requested lock/unlock really happened as requested).

Durango? Surely that's not *all* that failed.

No is wasn't. The A/C failed, the HVAC blower failed, the brake lines rusted out, the body was rusting, wheel hubs failed, to name a few. The truck was a complete POS

No kidding. I bought a new Durango in 2006 and it was a great vehicle.......as have the other dozen Dodge trucks I've purchased for the most part. I still have a 2003 Cummins Ram in my fleet that has been the best and most problem free truck I've owned.

A few years ago I had a buddy that bought a Durango new. It was such a POS that Dodge was forced to buy it back. 30 of the perhaps 90 days that he owned it he couldn't drive it because it was in for warranty repairs. They never could figure out why it died on the side of the road and threw a code that made an engineer from Detroit fly down to look at it.

First generation Durangos are notorious for issues. It's better to make a list of what didn't fail. I never owned one but friends did and... I'll just leave it at YMMV since I'm sure some people didn't hate them. We have Jeeps in the family and zero issues with them.

Ironically, there was an article in today's paper for a new recall on Durangos, to fix problems from a previous recall.

Back to your regularly scheduled Jaguar programming...

Yep; EVERY company makes a lemon now and again......you can even find evidence of that here! ;-)

I've purchased 7 brand new Chrysler vehicles in the last 15 years.....no issues out of the usual/expected.

Cheers,
Dave

I had two Durangos - a 1999 and a 2002. The 1999 was completely problem free. Thats why I went with another. A big mistake.
