Default Extra Key

Hi...I want to get an extra key fob with electronics for the car. Does anyone have a part number, source for the part at hopefully a discount? Also how difficult would it be to get programmed?

Thank you

I can't see your signature block on my mobile device. What specific year and model do you have?

It looks like they are same for all models: T2R19162. Retails for $416 and can be had online for $216. (Google the part number).
Only the dealer can program it. You should negotiate the price on that.

They are often Jag F-Type fobs on Ebay. Some with uncut emergency key also.

One in exc condition sold yesterday for $22 (with a cut key, unusable hard key).

Dealer would need to program.

Expect to pay $125 for one with an uncut hard key (off Ebay NOT a dealer - I could imagine) + a dealer fee for programming.

Did they ebay key work? My dealer is telling me they are unwilling (unable? not clear) to program an ebay key fob.

Anyone had luck with the dealer programming an ebay key fob?

I think it would be a waste of even $22. From my experience of Land Rover keys, once a fob is paired to a vehicle it can't be paired to another. So if the hard key has been cut it's pretty much a paperweight. There are some independent shops who have access to the same JLR software that the dealers use. They may be able to program keys and may be able to give you a different answer. But its an area that has been tightened up since the news headlines of tea leaves ("thieves") making off with your Jag/LR in the middle of the night having spoofed your car fob signal.

I think there was a recent thread from Cambo pointing out the newest models require more drastic replacement of the KVM module or similar if you find yourself without any keys left....

Your best best would be an official Jaguar parts shop online for the genuine part at the best price (per Unhingd's GoogleFu) and then negotiate with your local dealer when its next in for routine service...I believe the standard charge is an hour labour time. They claim it takes that long because the laptops with SDD are slow as sh*t... ;-)

Don't know if it will work for Jag, but we found a popular local automotive locksmith, who got us an authentic Honda FOB for her 2015 Civic, and programmed it for $150, dealer wanted $400.

Jaguar Palm Beach is not cheapest oem supplier. Jaguarpartsunlimited.com usually discounts about 16% from list. They are a Jag dealer, but advertise under this name to offer bit better discount, or so I'm told. There are other similar online dealer parts suppliers besides these two.

This is about the best deal you'll find on a new fob:https://www.ebay.com/itm/2014-2017-O...MAAOSw9p9adkjC

It's new, and still needs to be programmed by the dealer.

On a 2017MY the dealer can't just add another key, if you have two keys and you want a third then it's three new keys and a new KVM to boot.

SSM73234 explains it, use the google.

EDIT

But there are some "non dealer" key programming tools which would be able to add an extra key, you just need to find someone who has that tool...

Kind of, sort of related. My second fob doesn't have the blade inside. Can I get a replacement for just the blade easily? I haven't had to use one so other than knowing it's there, I don't know much about them, but figure I should have one in both fobs just in case.

That's interesting! When I bought my 2014MY, it came with 6 FOBs. Not sure why the previous owner needed so many but they all work!

I would like to have a 3rd as an extra key, but Yikes! $300 for new key & does anyone know how much the dealer will charge to have it programmed & key blade cut?

I bought an extra key for Vette (much lower price) & dealer programmed it for free.

My kids' car keys can be bought for less than $50 online & as long as you already have 2 keys, you can go through a 2 minute program yourself for the 3rd key...

I believe its an hour shop time, so $150 ish I guess.

I take it your kids don't drive Jags ;-)

The getting a new key procedure is to prevent theft from thieves but not theft from dealers.

They said $340 + tax for new key fob, without cutting blade.
He also said service dept probably charge $200 for programming...

So i just got my car back from the dealer (2015 Ftype v8 s), I gave them the $25 ebay key and they said they didn't want to program it because they have run into cases where it locks up the $700 key control module. I asked if they'd try anyway (what's $700 between friends) and they said that the programming didn't succeed. I'm not sure if they even tried, but taking them at their word, the ebay keys are kind of useless ( i think someone mentioned that earlier).

Ebay key is getting returned, so take that as a data point.. Let me ask the opposite question, has anyone had luck programming the ebay keys? that $200 ebay key seems like the best deal here, but who knows if it's actually any different and/or if the dealer would even agree to program it. They are offering me a discount on the key $396 (down from $486) and programming is $120, but adamant that i only buy the key from them.
