Default F-Type Coupe Launch Control

Hello guys!

I have a question regarding launch control.

Are the manufacturer specs considering launch control when releasing official 0-60 info? Because I've heard that caranddriver.com achieved a 0-60 in only 3.6secs with launch control activated on the V8S.

Does that also mean that a V6s could do even less than 4.9 secs under ideal launch control drag racing?

The official times are very conservative. The US magazine tests posted 3.4 seconds and up on the V8 convertible, the coupe should obviously be around the same. As for launch control, it doesn't seem that the V8 models actually have it...

My understanding is that only the V6 models or the V6 S has launch control.

The hard launches I see show the brake light on, the car hunker down and no wheel spin, all suggesting launch control.

Default V8S No Launch Control

I have one, no launch control. Was told Jaguar was worried that much power would break something. What you are seeing is likely power braking (rev the engine in drive with the brakes set hard).

There have several disagreements on this however:

Launch Control - Jaguar F-Type Forum

But I'm not aware of anyone getting it to work on a V8S only V6S.

Actually I found a rumor that someone got it to work (but haven't found the guy that supports this):

But I imagine you could reprogram the ECU to enable it.

Yep - it doesn't exist on the V8.... The manual implies it's a feature for all F-Type variants other than the non-S V6, but when you follow the instructions, it just doesn't work.... With that said, the V8 really doesn't actually need it, it launches hard as is!

Just used it yesterday - the V6S gets off the line much quicker with it.

By the way I had launch control on our old 3.2 Audi TT. It was a ton of fun, but agree the V8 takes off like a bat out of hell just fine without it. It has a serious problem getting the power to the ground at start, you lose a lot of time either dealing with traction control cutting the engine or with it off getting the rear tires to hook up. Lot of power not very much weight on the rear wheels. But when it hooks up it is an E ticket (remember those?) ride.

Since only the v8 models have e-diff, could it be that its programmed to handle launches?

Did you have MT drag radials with low pressure? If not, try...

I was not pleased with the 0-60 with the 2.0. Sort of bogged down first to second.

surprise, surprise. The car has launch control.

after reading the directions, I saw the performance graph difference!

sure enough. Turbo on, traction control off, rev matching(the problem) off. Likely ,3 or .4 seconds faster to 60. Chirped second well. Backed off before third. 55 zone.

Happy camper now.

it is funny that car and driver tested a 2.0 with heavy oversized wheels that slows the car down. They then forgot to use the launch control. They said the car is as slow as a Miata, no it is not. Not close.

Mine is a convertible. Cause I wanted it.

these modern transmissions are not so simple. Driving around in s Itakes getting used to. Not like an Accord. Generally I save that for senseless joy rides.

What sort of ride in an F-Type isn't a senseless joyful one?
