The day time lighting brightness for the DRL is significantly brighter and more powerful lighting output. When you switch on your car's headlights the DRL does get less bright.

Yeah, the brightness definitely goes down a lot when the lights are switched on in my MY18. Not even headlights, just the side lights will do it.

Every day is a school day. Didn't see a significant difference when I last checked the DRL intensity with/without headlights but will have to take a look again.

By the way, the DRL dimming issue is another good reason to upgrade the mirror indicator lights to stronger LED ones. That way even if your in headlight indicator becomes weak you have a very strong and visible one in the mirror. It's a bit weird how weak the standard mirror indicators are although they're LED based.

I am new to Jaguar, but in some reading I had done leading up to the purchase I had gained the impression that the company was pretty good about keeping parts available for older cars...E-types often being an example...This said, surprises me a bit to read some of the comments in the threads here suggesting that there will be no parts available etc moving forward. I guess time will tell.

The rarer and more exclusive the vehicle, the more difficult it is to find parts.

Default Problem Years for DRL

Reading the various posts, I have noticed the cars are model years; 2018, 2019, 2020.
I am wondering if this issue/problem is connected to these mentioned model year cars.

What about model years; 2016 and 2017.
No one so far with these two model years has jumped into this thread.

Anyone......

2016 and 2017 F-Types have HID headlamps. Not LEDs.

We are not discussing the actual "headlights". Instead we are speaking about the J shaped daytime running lights.
Unless.... the LED headlights are somehow connected to the problem associated with the DRL burning out and being dim in appearance.

DRLs on the 2015 thru 2018 are integral to the headlamp assemblies for both HID/Zenon and LED headlights.

It's turning the lights on that changes the DRL behaviour, not just headlights. When I start my car at night the houses opposite are illuminated brightly, but if I turn on the sidelights, the DRLs dim down noticeably. I wouldn't use headlights in that circumstance as it'd be more dazzling than the DRLs.

Is it possible to fit the Xenon lights from an earlier model F-Type to a 2018 model with the LED headlamps? Do they physically fit the openings and the mounting points? Is it possible to mount the HID transformers and connect them to the 2018 wiring? The lights on my 2015 XF are completely satisfactory for me and continue to give excellent illumination after 146,000 miles. If this change could be made it may allow me to keep my F-Type which has otherwise been quite reliable.

Although I'm unsure as to whether or not HID headlamp assemblies can replace LED headlamp assemblies I rather doubt it. I once hit a deer that required replacing once of the HID headlamps on my 2015 F-Type. The bodyshop mistakenly replaced the original headlamp with one that had an internal cornering lamp. The result was that neither HID headlamp would rise to level. The plug on the new headlamp and the vehicle wiring loom connected perfectly. Aside from some visual clues (the internal cornering lamp being one), later inspection determined that the wiring loom on my F-Type had two fewer prongs than the plug on the replacement headlamp. That's all it took to make the more expensive headlamp unusable. I suppose that with some major modifications to the vehicle computer programs you might be able to substitute a HID headlamp for a LED one...but I doubt it.

I feel your pain! I too have the left DRL out on my 2018 SVR - it was caught by a Concours Judge. The good news (sorta) is that I might have a lead for the replacement of the driver's side headlamp assembly. The dealer quoted a price of $4,238.12. I am looking at a potential source with the same OEM headlamp P/N T2R75690, shipped directly from an authorized JLR warehouse with a full OEM factory12 month warranty for less than $3,000. If you're interested PM me. I can keep you posted after I do my homework....

Oh, no! Still an issue? I had hoped the issue would have been resolved quite some time ago. Good luck.

Why not just turn them off?

Here's the best price that I could find for a Jaguar OEM Left Headlight Assembly: Land Leaping Genuine British Parts.
The price is $2975.16. https://www.landleaping.com/oem-part...mbly-t2r75690. When you place the order try using promo code SAVE10NOW for 10% off your subtotal! Even though the part diagram shows a previous model headlight assembly, the part number is correct...

Have you guys seen this - a guy has a fix coming for the 2018 - 2020 DRL issue, and it will be ready shortly.

The one problem I see is that he says the lights are too fragile to ship, and the car must be dropped off at the shop - in the UK. So that leaves the US owners out.

He co-operates with a German company that started selling refurbed lights with this new white part online and that company ships within continental Europe so the lights seem to be possible to ship.
