This is a tough one in my opinion. My brain says Lexus and my heart says Jaguar. I've gone with my brain twice before with Lexus on the RX and the the 350GS and both times I realized I wasn't very smart. I sold both within a year. Now I have a V8S F-Type and couldn't be happier.

So, your heart is cleverer than your brain! Who'd have thought that?

I considered the Lexus when I purchased my F Type R. The difference maker for me was the deal. I could get a newer, lower mileage jag than I could a Lexus. On similar mileage and year the Lexus was consistently more expensive. Of course that was only the initial acquisition. Does not account for maintenance and repairs.

Is it just me, or does the LC 500's basic shape remind you of a Ford Probe?

Oddly enough the one time I saw one up close it reminded me of my XKR. I dont see that at all in photos, but in real life that's what I saw. You dont see as many odd angles in real life as it is pretty low and you are looking down at it, whereas the camera shots are mainly from knee height.

The first photos I saw of it were rear quarter shots and some side shots and I send to myself “hmmmm verrry interesting”. But then I saw that god-awful grill and remembered that the “Lexii” I’ve owned in the past caused me a major fortune in maintenance and aggravation and I quickly got over my burgeoning lust for one.

A picture tells the entire story: Note the elegance of line of the Jaguar (elegance = simplicity) - nothing extra....the F-Type will look beautiful 20 years from now. The Lexus will look like an experiment in excess and frumpiness.

Wait...two photos shows the story even better:

The front end still looks like a locomotive cow catcher.

I have seen a few Dodge Chargers around town with the same wheels on them, with just about the same amount of rubber.

I don't understand why everyone is stuck on the coupe, when the vert looks so much better.

The Lexus is probably more comfortable on long road trips. I've seen a few LC's in the wild and could not warm to its origami design language (nor most Japanese cars. OTOH, the Korean Hyundai/Genesis look very European with their smooth lines!)

But I want a small, compact car and the LC is almost a foot longer than the F-Type. I wouldn't take it on a long trip as this 50-y.o. back can no longer take a beating; just wish it had bigger storage for my golf clubs.
