Default An f-type that lost its soul - exhaust note problem

Hi All,

I just registered as a new member! Yesterday, I almost bought a 06/2015 f-type base model with active exhaust button, exactly spec'd how I like it.
However, during the testdrive, I noticed no auditive difference between exhaust button activated, dynamic mode, or sport mode. The engine tone was in all cases the same!

A few years ago I drove a friends V6S and remembered the "gunfire" when in dynamic - shifter in sport mode - exhaust activated. Yesterday I did the same thing, no pops or bangs on the overrun or downshifts.... and no difference if the exhaust is manual activated or deactivated.

I am confused because as far as I know the valves are springloaded in open position, so if a vacuum problem would exist, the exhaust should be in "popping" position...

The dealership is going to investigate before I buy. Anyone heard of such a specific problem?

Thx!

There are few possibilities: a) O2 patch was applied that killed sound b) actuated valves malfunction.

I’ve read about the o2 patch. If the first o2 patch was installed in the past, as far as I understand there should be an additional o2 patch that brings back the original sound... hopefully...

Does the amount of miles have an influence? The car has 23000 miles (37000 Km)...

thanks!

During the first 8000 miles or so, the car is breaking in and the exhaust gets louder and more pronounced. However, at 23,000 miles, I would expect it to be as good as it's going to get. Depending on where you are located, there was a recent posts about the exhaust being toned down in certain areas of the world with a software update.

I live in the Netherlands, Europe. If it is tuned down, I can imagine it can be reverted or updated. I thought the update only affected v8 engines...

The only one I know that supposedly affects the noise is H136 - Pass by Noise in Latched Special Programs Mode. It didn't make any difference to my noise when in Dymanic mode, but my neighbour thinks it's a bit quieter at low rpms in D. It also always reverts Dymanic mode to off after an ignition cycle (no 6 hour retention).

Noise patch was for V8 cars. My problem turned out to br a disconnected line, pops came right back.

As mentioned, it's not just V8's.

However, have the car checked out just to make sure there isn't anything wrong with the valve actuators. If it's the software update, it's not likely you'll find a dealer to reverse it as it was likely applied for regional compliance.

The dealer is investigating, the car has had replaced O2 sensors (only hardware, no software updates so far)

@SinF I read in an other thread (few years ago) your car got a lot quieter after the o2 patch, did it ever get resolved?

My car is still quiet and no resolution. It doesn't even pop at startups and you have to really work it at RPMs for it to pop on downshifts.

Ok, can I request a dealer not to apply this patch & would they adhere to my request? Is it just to tone the noise down?

I don't have nearly as high of an opinion of VAP as the rest of this forum and it has nothing to do with actual tune they offer. If I were to tune, which is unlikely, it would be by another vendor.
