Default F Type Name...

Just curious if anyone knows what/where/how Jaguar came up with the F type name &/or where it came from?

Family members asked me what does the F Type stands for?

Google search only came up with at least where the F Pace name:
Jaguar F Pace Name is having quite a history - Drivers Magazine

It's sort of the follow on to the E-type. E-type is sort of a nickname for the XKE, if that's the right terminology. Not clear to me if 'E-type' was ever an official designation, though that's what everyone calls them?

Google/Wikipedia Jaguar C-Type, D-Type and E-Type. "XKE" is just the US marketing name for the E-Type following on from XK120, 140 and 150, because LeMans victories carry less weight with the car-buying punters here than in Europe.

Simply sequential C,D,E,F. C stood for Competition. There was no A or B.

Put one of those family members in the passenger seat and stomp the skinny pedal while going around a bend. Then you'll find out.

Makes a little more sense.
But why F type & F Pace?
Maybe marketing guy/girl went home early when he got to the: Enter Name: F .___type here___

May I suggest better names:
F1
F14
FU....

I will admit that I hate the "pace" moniker.

I think it started with the Jaguar C-type, with C standing for competition. Next, of course, came the D and E Types, which were meant for everyday driving. Personally, I never expected any model from Jaguar, or anyone else for that matter, to produce a vehicle that would compare to the E-Type, but when I first laid eyes on the F-Type when it debuted I was gobsmacked. The F takes design elements from the E, even down to the grill bar which some on this forum don't seem to care for, but is a direct reference to the front of an early 70s E model. To my eye the F-Type designers got it completely right with the flow and complementary body lines.

+1. Some of us prefer the early 60's reference:

To each his own; rather looks like a channel catfish without the bar. All it lacks are whiskers--maybe some curb feelers would suffice.
I'm considering a '54 Chevy grill for mine--always liked the way that grilled complimented the '49/'50/'51 Mercs.

I have always liked the open nosed cars.

Here you go Navy Blue...this video is exceptional in explaining the history and lineage culminating with today’s F-Type...

I expect that F-"Pace" comes from the ( I believe) Sir Willaims Lyon's description of a Jaguar's characteristics - Grace, Space and Pace; hence F-Pace. Heritage costs extra, that's why marketing comes up with this stuff.
