My F-Type just started having power steering issues. First it seemed intermittent where the steering became stiff, as if driving in Dynamic mode, but still in comfort mode. Switching to Dynamic got even stiffer. After recalibration the power steering module by the dealer, it seemed to work fine for a few hundred miles. Now it stiff or heavy all the time. Dealer says it drives like every other F-Type. Had two other F-Type owners drive my car. They agree, feels more like in Dynamic mode all the time, and switching to Dynamic is like not having power steering at all. Worked fine for the first 27,000 miles. Any suggestions? 2016 S AWD if it matters.

 

Is the steering electric-assist? (No power steering reservoir at the left front corner of the engine bay)

If so, any poor or marginal connection could intermittently cause a voltage drop and increased effort. All the trunk (boot) connections need to be checked for tightness, as well as the connections of the large red power wire going from the boot to the engine bay.

You can make life easier for the EPAS by properly inflating the tires, and 'rolling' the car a bit when turning.


In the 'misery loves company' category, I'm seeing similar issues to yours on other makers' forums too.

 

Thanks for chiming in. Connections are fine. Strangely enough, first time it happened, disconnected the battery, reset the power control module, problem corrected, for a few hundred miles. Next time it did nothing. Dealer recalibrated the steering control module, seemed to work, for a couple of hundred miles. now just overly stiff all the time. Put it into dynamic mode, like have no power steering at all.

Wish they had a preowned F-Type to test drive and compare.
