I'm just 6 weeks into ownership of a new-to-me F Type R- I absolutely love it- far superior to the Porsche’s I have owned!
when I took delivery I was expecting to pay £570 tax per 12 months- but was pleasantly surprised when gov.uk asked for £265!
i asked on another forum and a very helpful/insightful chap suggested my may be because the car is very early in production run or even a prototype, that was saved from the usual disposal via Copart?
the V5 states registered 21.10.2013.
in the special notes section it states SVA/IVA in March 2015?
if anyone can shine some light on this, it would be really appreciated

Unless the V5 is incorrect I'd be interested to know the answer, too! Registrations between March 2006 and Feb 2017 should be at the eyewatering rate.

 

I don't know how things work on your side of the pond when someone is upset that their taxes are too low, but over here in the States all government entities are open to accepting checks or cash payments in any amount into the their general funds. Barring that simply make compensatory contributions to a charity or charities of your choice.

 

Let me help with a little perspective. The 2020 vehicle registration of my 2014 BASE (repeat BASE) convertible in Arizona was $505 (£389) and we don't even have paved roads!

 

I think "confused" would be a better word than "upset" in this instance, and "seem to be too low".

 

Hi- so far as I can see, the V5 is correct.
engine size, colour, VIN, engine number, registration etc...
event went through all MOT’s- all correct.

Indeed. The figure you quote seems to be about right for the value based on engine size (pre-March 2006, if memory serves) before it went to a CO2 based tax. Unless they think it's a 4-pot, which wasn't available in 2014! Hope they don't decide to charge you for the other half!

Could the vehicle have been an import, and they've based it on real measured emissions?

It doesn't necessarily have to be an import for IVA and from your opening message it is printed on the front of the V5C.

You may be on to something with the Copart thing; it looks like your vehicle was an early non-production run before the variant got approval. JLR do allow this if the vehicle is otherwise to-spec with the factory cars as I have owned one in the past that spent its first year off the road. It then had its PDI and was transferred to Copart for with 15 miles on it. If you check the online service history you may find something similar.

do as xdave says & check the online history. It may well have it’s days with Copart on there. It was me you were chatting with yesterday & mine was serviced there before release. Please let us know how you get on...I’m intrigued.

Congratulations...You have a rare prototype vehicle. The VIN number you gave me yesterday, 09XXX, tells me it was the 9th one made. I wonder if 01-08 are still “alive” or if indeed you have the earliest F-Type R Coupe produced that’s still in existence?

In CA, (we have very high taxes + highest petrol prices + the worst roads in the USA + highest house prices + highest homeless + lets just say highest everything u can measure or worst ROI) South Bay (Santa Clara) my 2016 R for 2020 is $695 to register for the year. Roads are so bad here now I have to pick and choose which roads to drive on and which lanes on the motorway (cos tires explode at speed on some of the holes/gaps). Highway 101 actually has a weed bed growing between the fast lane and next lane in Mountain View (huge crack) and there's probably a conservation order on it! Im surprised they haven't installed sprinklers LOL Parts of 101 near Redwood City are actual built on a water table so when it rains the water rises and floods 101. When they built it they knew it was there but didn't want to raise the highway cos neighbors complained it would obstruct their view.

But then again nearly 40years of democratic rule will do that to any state.

And yes I will be moving soon

 

Dang didn't realize 101 was that bad down south. It's not bad at all up in the Monterey Bay area. CA still sucks though. Definitely move ;-)

My 2.0 is €600 per year
V6 3.0 €1260 per year
V8 5.0 wait for it, a whooping €2300 per year
This was from 2008 till now, previously it was based on engine size , my old XKR was €1800 per year,
Hence why I went for the 2.0

 

I renewed my 2016 R model in December and it was $700.

 

My R is £600 a year!
