F Type R review video. Anyone know him?
Hello guys,
I came across this video and wanted to share and ask if the reviewer is anyone from this message board, past or present member.
The video gets interesting when he discusses his VAP modifications and his complaint.
Worth watching.....

Never heard of him before.
I don't believe his complaint about VAP poor after-sales service, by all reports and in my experience they are top notch.
I think what he meant to say is that VAP declined to take responsibility for a gearbox failure which was not their fault or caused by their tune and instead took the stance (rightly IMHO) that if anyone was going to cover the cost of gearbox repair or replacement it should/would be JLR not them.
I reckon he was just pissed off at JLR not covering the gearbox failure then doubly pissed off at VAP then not covering it either.

Thanks for sharing. I do not give this guy much credibility. Obviously pissed about the tranny (and I get that). However, he very clearly contradicts himself in the video. In the early portion he indicates that Jaguar said the transmission failure WAS NOT DUE TO THE VAP TUNE, but because he had the tune, they would deny the claim. Later he says that the tune CAUSED the transmission failure??
Also...He starts talking more about the transmission towards the end, and is incorrect. Chrysler is the only company that is licensed to make "their" version of the ZF 8HP.
"Chrysler Group LLC initially received the 8HP 8-speed automatic transmissions from the ZF plant in Saarbrücken, Germany. By 2013, in parallel with Chrysler Group, ZF had set up a new transmission production plant in Gray Court, South Carolina. ZF Friedrichshafen and Chrysler Group have reached a supply and license agreement for the 8HP. Chrysler Group is licensed to produce the 8HP at the company’s Kokomo Transmission Plant and the Kokomo Casting plant, production began in 2013. This transmission is marketed by Chrysler under their own brand name, the Torqueflite 8."
Otherwise their various models of ZF8HP (30 through 90) are made by ZF Friedrichshafen AG, specifically the ones he refers to that are in the BMW's (8HP70). Manufacturers can apply software changes for various shift strategies, and even torque converters, but the core transmission appears to be the same. In fact the HP70 ZF is used in a ton of cars:
BMW 7 Series (F01/F02), BMW X5 50i (E70), BMW 5 series (F10/11), BMW 3 Series (F30) 330d and 335d, Dodge Durango V8, Iveco Daily, Jaguar F-Type (V6 and V8), Jaguar XE 35t, Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.7L 8-cyl Engine Code [T] EZH (2014 -), Jeep Grand Cherokee 6.4L 8-cyl Engine Code [J] ESG (2014 -), Jeep Grand Cherokee V8, Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel (2014-2016), Ram 1500 V6, V8, & diesel, Range Rover Sport (2012), Rolls-Royce Phantom, Maserati Quattroporte (2013–), Dodge Charger V8 (2015-), Volkswagen Amarok V6 TDI 550, Dodge Challenger V8 (2015-), Aston Martin Vanquish (2015), Aston Martin Rapide S (2015),[18] Alpina B3 (F30/31), Alpina B4 (F32/33), Great Wall Haval H9.
Just some food for thought... Also agree...I am not loving all of the stickers on the car. And what a ton of updates to do on a lease vehicle??? Wow.

My understanding that ZF transmission used in F-type is extremely reliable and transmission failure is almost unheard of. I think this is the first report of such in this forum, at least the first one I ever recall seeing since I joined.
He's a very confused young man. and he claims to be reviewing the F-Type whereas he's actually reviewing his modified version of the F-Type. A review is more useful if it's of the stock car, otherwise he should do a review of the mods he's done, not conflated the two and then had a whinge about Jaguar not wanting to honour the warranty of such a heavily modified vehicle. They don't know what he's been doing with it!

My initial thought is he seriously abused that car over his three years of ownership. Most likely drove it like he stole it (leased) all of the time!
With all the mods he did he spent quite a bit of unnecessary dollars which add zero for the resale value. (Even more so on a lease-return, which they may actually charge him extra for him adding and then they remove them.) And he complains that most should have come standard from the factory. Perhaps he should go and price a Porsche and look at the base price vs what an out-the-door upgraded/accessorized car would cost. I think he would fall over at the add-on cost over the base Porsche price.

Frankly not sure why anyone would put out that amount of cash into a leased car that you may or may turn in. Not very smart if you ask me. As stated by others mods to cars still under warranty are a crap shoot.
With all the electronic system telemetry built into cars these days , dealer can tell if you farted in the car and the day and time.
Not a big fan of any of his mods let alone a car under warranty.

I loved his comment about Jaguar having chosen a cheap version of the ZF transmission while BMW chose a more expensive one. Yup, ZF provides a range of versions, from cheap and guaranteed to fail to expensive and abuse-proof. Everything about this man tells you that he has abused the car since day 1 of the lease. Pity the next owner. One good thing he says is that he won't be buying another Jaguar...gee, and he could have been a poster boy for responsible ownership.
Yes, replaced tires at 10k.....they are soft and sticky for an AWESOME ride
