Default F-Type R vs F-Type SVR

For those who have owned both or have extensively driven both, do you feel the SVR is worth the approximately $50k up charge over R?

Looking for a used SVR in BRG, however I do not believe that it exists.

I own an R now and love it. Just wondering if the upgrade to the SVR is worth it

Also do not want to order an SVR in BRG at around $145k due to the massive depreciation which will likely slam the car like the other SVR's I have seen

I don't think so myself. The SVR has the same engine, just tuned a bit more aggressively. I bought a EuroTuning tune and got more power than an SVR has for a grand.

You already own an R, so my answer is no.

If you didn't own an F-Type and were looking for a car, I'd MAYBE consider it, but for the price, the R is the top model in my eyes.

Save your money... get a VAP tune and exhaust.

You will be very happy.

It’s worth the upgrade but not at full price. Go and get a good deal.

I had a 2015 RWD R coupe. The car was great but raw. I drove it as a daily 40 miles each way with stop and go traffic often. Now I have an SVR which I like so much better. The AWD makes the car so much more surefooted that you can really enjoy it without any fear. The bias is still totally RWD, but the AWD catches you and balances it all out. Brilliant actually. The spring changes to the SVR makes it feel more planted and the titanium exhaust has a bit more bass. The SVR feels more refined and the aero changes make it much more stable.

SVR is worth it at the right price.

For future shoppers also worth noting that the 2020 R now has the SVR suspension components. Really makes it hard to justify SVR cost premium.

Without fear, there is no adrenaline. Without adrenaline there is no joy.

How’s that for dime store philosophy?

If all things are equal why not, of course at a great deal.

I'll be brutally honest: I would rather have an SVR. The minor cosmetic differences, a little more power and the're something inside my brain that likes exclusive and limited run.

I bought an R, though, because I could not justify the price difference. They are so similar and I have zero regrets about saving tens of thousands and getting an R. I still like the SVR and if money were no object...I'd get a Project 7 and and SVR coupe.

The price difference for base convertible 2020 R vs SVR is $22k, $105k vs $127k, before any options added. So besides the extra 25 horsepower difference, can someone summarize the other major upgrades you get for $22k?

Interior and exterior esthetics. Titanium exhaust.

Before 2020, the SVR had better suspension components, but I understand some of these have migrated to the R. Needs some research.

Other differences were additional weight savings items if I recall - about 100 lbs, much of that is the exhaust, ligher wheels and the above mentioned suspension components. The way I see it, buy the SVR if you don't want to modify it and love it as it is.

I prefer to make my own decisions about engine tuning/tires/wheels/exhaust/other weight savings so starting with an R made more sense for me.

This sums it up perfectly. There is a reason the SVR exists.
Great deals out there as well.

That Road and Track article is spot on. The SVR is really that much smoother and sounds better.

I just upgraded from a RWD 2014 R to a 2017MY SVR.
The changes all seem small but when you add it all up, they are worth more than the sum of the parts.

The SVR is much more special and cumulatively the changes add up to a better car which I love more.

The SVR was a special variant of the F-Type. Now that it has been discontinued and no longer available it's even more special and worth every penny!

Not sure who brought this thread back to life, but I live in a pretty low population area and my local dealer has a 2020 SVR – I think they want 130K
