Jaguar still suffers from the reputation (rightly) earned during the bad old days of the 1970s and 80s. Since their Ford days they have come on in leaps and bounds (which seems appropriate for a jaguar!) in reliability. I had an XK8 for 4 years, an x100 XKR for 3 years and an x150 XKR for 5 years before getting my F-Type 3 months ago, and had no significant problems with any (apart from tyres and fuel!). Some have had "rogue" cars, but I think the majority are as reliable as any other make.

I’d respond by splitting overall reliability into two buckets:
Mechanical Reliability
im at 27k, bought it at 13k in June of 2017. Only mechanical issue has been an oxygen sensor
Fit and finish
most of my dealer visits were for this, hunting down and fixing rattles. This is caused by the engineering design of how interior panels are connected to eachother and the body (think nails vs screws but for interior assembly). They’ll need a concerted effort to fix this as a company, as my 250k mile Toyota Echo beater has fewer rattles than the Jag. Also i’ll Put audio in here. It’s been a struggle with the stereo quality, and even the stereo causing rattles.
I’m guessing that Jaguar has also adopted the Toyota Kaizen, Six sigma manufacturing going forward. I can’t imagine many auto manufacturers haven’t. ultimately I roll down the window, downshift and brap brap brap my worries away..

It’s going to be a mixed bag of responses, and this forum is really too small of a sample size to make any conclusions. You’re better off using JDP or consumer reports data. Many people here have had zero issues over years. I’ve had lots of issues; radiator fan failure, defective kick plates, warping trunk tray, multiple O2 sensors, supercharger spring failure resulting in replacement, and intake valve cap crack resulting in full passenger side cylinder head rebuild.
My personal opinion is that Jaguar is less reliable than Porsche, but if anything goes wrong with the cayman engine you’re going to pay way more to fix it because it’s so hard to access. That and the Porsche tax in general. Neither is a Toyota.

That said, browsing the net will not result in major F-Type issues. The rattles maybe, but really big technical issues - me thinks of for instance oil consuming VAG engines -, nah, not really.

I moved from a Nissan Almera to an XK8 in 2007 (yeah, quite an upgrade!) and decided to keep the Almera as a backup for when the Jag went wrong. Since 2007 the Almera has done 1900 miles, most of which were when the 2004 XKR burst an oil pipe at 98,000 miles and was off the road for a while. Some years, the Almera only has the milage to and from the garage for its annual service/MOT. Only my experience, and YMMV, but I found the Jags I've had to be very reliable so far.

I haven't had mine long - no major issues yet (although some worrying noises, possibly from the Diff which is a known issue). What I would say though is the fit and finish leaves a lot to be desired. Rattles abound in the cabin and many owners have issues with the bonnet and or doors not aligning properly. Whereas with the Porsche - you will not have any of those issues. Fit and finish is near perfect on the Porsche.
Flip side? The Jag is a beast, it's simply gorgeous and turns heads where ever you go. Makes a great noise. In 6 years of Porsche ownership - 1 comment. In 4 months of Jag ownership - too many comments and thumbs up to count. Seriously. People love this car. It's nice to have something that's a bit unique, a bit different and definitely way more special.

Around 3 years 8 months and so far been very reliable (2015 F-Type R). Had some minor issues when I first bought it new such as thump from rear shock and fuel filler neck valve that were fixed quickly. Aside from that stereo sound issue was fixed via TSB firmware update. I still have some squeaks and rattles that I have been too laz..busy to deal with. Still looks and drives great.

30 months , 15.5k miles in on '16R purchased new, driven spring to fall only.
Oxygen sensor, corroded ground wire, speaker TSB, door weatherstrip (hit with foot several times, could be sturdier), and battery died after first 3 days (II think dealers didn''t pull diagnostic tool, before shutting off car).
That's it. So far so good. I'd like to have a Cayman in addition to an f type but not in lieu of an f type.
