Default Factory P-Zero Tire Wear

I just had my car in for the two year maintenance visit. As part of that they checked the tread depth of the much beloved P-Zero factory tires. The fronts (255/35 20s) are at 9/32. The rears (295/30 20s) are at 7/32. The car only has 1600 miles on it. I double checked the depths myself and they are accurate.

I expected the tires to wear quickly, but the wear on the rears seems a bit excessive. The car has never been tracked and I have been taking it easy as I am still in the 2K mile engine break-in.

Is this wear rate what others are seeing with these tires?

Welcome to P-Zero tire ownership. They are terrible.

Expect to have wear with a performance tire in a sports car. Be careful in the rain. Otherwise drive like an old lady.

My wear seemed to be average before I ditched them totally at 7500 miles because I had lost all faith in the tires. I project they would have made it to somewhere around 15,000 miles, when judging by treadwear.

When I bought my 2020 in December it was one year old and had 7 K. Unfortunately, the dealer had installed four brand new P-Zero's. So far they aren't too bad, but I haven't really done any spirited driving. I'm sure they will be replaced soon. I've driven on half worn P-Zero's before in a previous F-Type, and it wasn't pretty.

With lots of spirited driving, no track, I've replaced my rears at 10,500 miles.
Fronts are still half-way decent, probably last another 5000 miles... but hopefully good enough until changing out rears at next change.

If my current wear rate continues my rears will be worn out at 4,266 miles. Pathetic.

I bought the car new with 185 miles on it.

I just measured my tires using a tread gauge (not a coin!!).
Tires are oem P-Zeros on 2021 R-Dynamic (P380).
Total of 1,600 miles, all driven in last 7 weeks, probably 2/3 highway.
Treads are all at 9/32 (measured at centers of tires).
My dealer did a wheel alignment at purchase, with slight adjustment needed to factory spec.
I plan to replace with Continental Extreme Contact DWS06 Plus all-seasons before the Winter.
Not sure whether to bother putting the PZs back next Summer .
It depends on tread remaining in November.

Mine had new P-Zeros on it when I bought it, 7,000 miles later no significant wear like what you're experiencing, with a mix of highway, city, and back road romps when able.

I plan on replacing them when it comes time with something different to be fair, but the P-Zero hate here on the forums, well never quite understood it. I've just not experienced the poor performance others have in their experiences.

If you bought a NEW car with 185 miles that is not really new.
Was it a demo?
Are you sure it was not pregistered previously?
Perhaps the Jag sales guys took it to the track.
I would have them check the brakes for wear as well.
Seems like somebody left a lot of rubber on the road more than once!!
Perhaops you have a warranty claim.

For most on this forum, the P-Zero's are anything but beloved and don't wear out fast enough. If you look through the history, they typically range from 7,000-14,000.
You'll soon need to line up some Michelins Pilot Sport 4S's - then you can go out and enjoy burning off the last of the Perellis.

I could tell the difference before I got off the lot.

I got a new 2018 in November 2019. It had been on the lot for a while. I saved a bundle though. It was on the lot so long they made it a CPO. I then had them throw in an extra year of CPO warranty and a new battery before I left the dealership.

It was never registered, but they did start the warranty in May 2019 so I did lose a little time on that.

I also just checked my records. During the first maintenance visit at 800 miles the rears were at 8/32.

After test driving F-Types with both PZ's and MPS4's, I agree that the Michelins "feel" better, but does anyone know if they really last longer?

I reckon they do.
When I got my F-Type in Sept 2016 it came with half worn P-Zeros and 27,xxx km on the clock.
I'll never know for sure but I would bet they were not the original tyres but the second set.
I replaced the P-Zeros with MPS4S in Sept 2017 after putting up with a year of ***** traction and ***** grip, I couldn't even think about more than 1/2 throttle with any angle at all on the steering wheel without the rear end letting go and the DSC going apeshit.
I've done some 32,000 km (20,000 miles) since and the MPS4S are now about 2/3 worn out and I don't baby it, so I guesstimate 30,000 miles in total before they will need replacing.

Yes. Replaced the P-Zero's in 2016 at 14k miles. Michelins are still going strong.

I believe I got 29,000 miles out of the last set of MPS4S, 20k+ out of the previous MPSS, and maybe 14k out of the original P-Zeros.

My MY2017 came with those tires. I bought the car this past fall, 2020, with 26k miles on it, those Pzeroes had already been swapped out with summer only Continentals. I wanted an all season tire so just put a set of Continental ExtremeContact DWS on. Not many miles on them yet, but have had Cs on other cars with good results.

The P Zero treadwear rating is 220 whereas the Conti's are 300. That's quite a bit of difference and certainly isn't worth the $100 less price for a set of 4.

The rears (295/30 20s) are at 7/32. The car only has 1600 miles on it.
I suggest having a wheel alignment done. Both the fronts and the backs wore prematurely, on the extreme inboard edges, on our car...where it was difficult to see until the cords started showing.

Now that the wheels are better aligned, our rear tires are lasting MUCH longer. Prior to the alignment, I could visually see the inboard wear after only 2000 miles on ours (don't remember the measured difference inboard to outboard). A recent check showed nothing alarming.

I bought my 2014 S V8 earlier this year. The original Perelli's have 5100 miles and still look new. I wouldn't say they are terrible. I'll be switching to the Continental Extreme Contact DWS 06 all season tire soon. I don't track the car and don't have any twisty roads and cannot push the car to its limits, all flat and straight. My fun comes in the form of spirited burnouts and quick acceleration. The summer hi-po tires, any brand, wear faster and suck in the rain. Especially when half worn.
