Default False Positive Warnings With Parking Aid System

A few days ago I got off the freeway and was sitting behind a Dodge Challenger waiting for the light to change. He had what was probably an aftermarket exhaust system that was quite loud. neither of us were moving and I was several feet behind him. All of a sudden my Parking Aid warning system started beeping and then went into a solid beep tone like I was about to collide with an object. When the light changed and he pulled away it stopped.

I was thinking that perhaps the exhaust pulses from his car somehow triggered the parking sensors. But the next day in a similar scenario, I had just gotten off the freeway and the warning system went off, this time showing a collision threat to both the front and the side of the car, and there was another car next to me on the left but it was a comfortable and normal distance away. Once we started moving the warning stopped.

The owners manual says "If a parking aid system fault is detected, a long, high-pitched tone sounds and the parking aid icon flashes. The touchscreen displays a parking aid warning message. If all of the sensors are clean and, after restarting the engine, the issue persists, contact a retailer/authorized repairer as soon as possible." I don't remember if the icon was flashing, and the sensors are all spotless.

Has anyone else had this happen ? I guess if it becomes a regular occurrence a trip to the dealer will be in order. It certainly startled me when I wasn't expecting it like when I am pulling into my garage or up to a parking space concrete bumper and it goes off so I don't scrape the spoiler.

I've had it happen at a light. It doesn't always do it, but if you're close enough to the car in front of you and you're stopped it thinks you're trying to park and activates the sensors.

I have a MY2017 Coupe that started doing this in the last month, at 31k miles. It's only the right front that's acting up. It starts when I back out of the garage and if I am a bit too close to the right side of the garage door, it goes off like it should. However , it then won't shut off, despite being 20 feet out of the garage. Left side doesn't do it. I talked to my JLR service advisor and she noted that she's had several instances of this, so I have an appt. in a couple of weeks for them to sort it out, and that it should be covered under warranty. Will report back as to resolution.

I had a similar experience with the F-Pace (no parking assist on the F-Type). Dealer replaced the right front sensor on my next visit and the problem went away.
