Default Flashing Check Engine Light

Was driving the car today on the freeway when all of a sudden the Check Engine Light started flashing and turned off by itself after a few seconds. No errors at all on the display. As I slowed down I noticed dark grey smoke coming out of the tailpipe (later found out it was only the right pipe) and pulled over onto the shoulder, where it rough idled before being turned off. Car has been towed to dealer awaiting diagnosis--hopefully an easy fix but not sure what happened without any errors displaying.

As far as I can tell this is one of the first situations where this has happened with F-Types, although I have found similar issues with older Jags. Looking to hear back from my service guy soon, but If anyone else has experienced this please chime in.

A solid yellow CEL is generally just an irritation or something minor (that may also be difficult to diagnose). You can generally use the car safely until it's checked out. Flashing yellow means: pull over right now and shut it down. Blowing blue smoke out of the tail pipe is always calamitous news. Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings. If the smoke is coming from one side of the exhaust only, it's likely a bad piston ring.

Thanks for the responses guys, late update but got the car back from the dealer: turns out the issue was with a failed fuel injector that was stuck open, but once that was replaced everything has been running smoothly. Weird situation and I think one of the first cases with an F-Type as the service techs also had never seen it happen, but seems like everything is good now.

Outstanding! A simple issue to resolve and best of all, you’re back on the road.

I have no idea but we haven’t yet reached the stage where non organic things heal themselves. Have to wait for Skynet to become self aware

Hoping it was just a glitch or a bad sensor

many chain auto parts stores will read codes for free. It would be wise to see if any of the serious codes were thrown.
