Next time you make a canyon run, let me know if you want some company. I should be getting my freshly restored Pantera back within the next two days, and I'm itching to take it on a canyon run through the Santa Monica Mountains to Pacific Coast Highway. I'm going to have to get a little used to double the horsepower and half again as much torque, but I'm sure I can have some fun. Maybe next Sunday morning meetup at Supercar Sunday on Topanga and then a run up Topanga to Mulhullond Highway.
Thanks.

The original Ford GT40 and the followup Ford GT of 2005-6, are amongst the most beautiful automotive shapes ever designed. Congratulations on owning one. I hope it brings you great pleasure when you drive it. As you stated you've always wanted one, I also had a great desire for an early '70's Italian supercar, and about a dozen years ago, I purchased my Pantera. Again, I loved the shape, the sound, the torque, etc., but found myself never driving it after I bought my 5.0L XKR about 6 years ago. I could take the XKR out without any preparation or worries, it was quicker, easier to drive, much more comfortable, and beautiful in its own right. With the Pantera, you couldn't drive in warm weather or stop and go traffic without risking overheating and blowing the engine. If you didn't drive it every few days (and I wasn't doing that) it was very difficult to keep the carb tuned and starting the car meant pulling the air cleaner, pouring gas into the secondaries, running back into the car and starting it quickly and then putting every back together again, a real p.i.t.a. So, I decided that either I would sell it or make it more drivable. It started as a simple change to fuel injection so as to not have starting issues, but turned into a "new" 500+hp/550ft. lb engine, high quality paint job, new high capacity cooling fans, and a full leather interior with better, more supportive seats, big bore headers, new exhaust, etc... After nearly 4 years, I should get it back within the next couple of days. I have heard it run and it is very loud with a very deep bass rumble. I can barely contain myself wanting to open her up. And though I promised myself I wouldn't track it any longer after I spun it out twice on a wet Sonoma Raceway track about 5 years ago, I think I'll take it one more time just to be able to safely explore its new performance parameters. I should have some photos, videos, and sound clips next week. I guess I'll be buying a GoPro very soon. How about some more pictures of your Ford GT?

Those pictures are pre-restoration. It looked nearly perfect before but the improvements made to the engine, the addition of fuel injection, the new seats and full leather interior, the upgrading of the cooling and exhaust systems, and tweaking throughout the car should make it easier for me to drive it more than I was doing before (which was nearly never), You're just down the road in Orange County, come on up one weekend and take it out for a day. It should be a lot of fun now with over 500hp on a 3000lb. car with an unbelievable amount of torque. You're welcome to do so.
