Digging into the zip archive under Files on the webpage, it contains a 2016 folder with a readme saying:And it includes what is likely the "special file", titled rr2015-rvc4_wire_Julian (1).enc. However I can't find instructions on how to use/update with these files.
The ICE system on F-Type based on IAM2.1 vet 3 head unit
The ICE on XJ 2016MY based on InControl system.
They are different!
For retrofitting OEM front camera or Surround Camera system need to be ordered Surround Camera System Module and cameras. I think the main wiring should be already installed from factory, there must be soldering some addition wiring and reprogram some modules for activating front camera option.
Great idea but I bet it's 5mph.....hard to get a good draft going at that speed
Fair point.
Oddly, the rear facing camera doesn't appear to have an upper limit. So it's possible to select all it when in Drive, and watch whatever is behind you disappear as you accelerate.

I sometimes turn the rear camera on when driving. its odd but kinda fun to watch objects (read: ALL other vehicles) rapidly disappear into the distance
I have a NAV TV camera on my 2014 F-Type. Believe it or not my car didn't come with a reverse camera from the factory. I had both front and rear installed aftermarket. The reverse camera is actually in a license plate bracket, but they had to remove the front bumper to install the front camera. Reverse camera activates up on the LCD when the car is put in reverse but I have a toggle tucked under the steering wheel I have to flick to turn on the front camera (I could activate it through a submenu from the home screen but so much easier to just flick the toggle when I pull into a tight space) I paid $2600 to have both installed but it's so nice to have. I can see exactly where I am and can just creep up to the curb as close as I need to. My car doesn't have front or rear sensors either (which I wish I had) but having the cameras is really doing the trick so far.
Has anyone given the Nav-TV front camera a try on their 2016 yet?
I don't want to be the first...
Since my car didn't come with the Vision Pack (which in my opinion should be standard on the R), I'm most likely going to get the NAV-TV to get the rear and front cameras very soon.
Which of their 12 different cameras did you order for the front?
And where do you intend to mount it?
My installer ordered the necessary parts after talking with the reps at NAV-TV. As far as mounting location, we probably have to determine that once he actually sees the car on the day of installation.
I have a 2016 R with vision pack so I have the OEM rear camera and the front parking sensors and P button by the NAV unit.
Has anyone installed a front facing camera. I.e. actually did the DIY work. If so I notice step 8 needs a SPDT relay. and access to the passenger side access panel. Can you get the front camera to trigger automatically as the vision pack triggers the front parking sensors at forward speeds under 5mph. Note I do not want to wire a toggle switch to force Front/Rear operation i.e. I just want front (i.e press the P button)/rear (car in reverse) activation to be automatic.
What camera should I buy and where should I mount it. Note I have no front number plate as Im in California.
I know you mentioned not wanting a toggle switch, but as your profile picture shows a coupe you could fit the folding roof switch in place of the blank coin holder and use that to trigger a latching relay to toggle between front and rear cameras. The OEM roof switch has arrows on it do it doesn't look out of place for its new purpose. I fitted the switch when fitting birds eye cameras to my car so it toggles between the OEM rear and top-down camera views.
There is a small coax/FAKRA connector almost directly underneath those switches which you can switch your own video signal in and have it used in place of the OEM reverse camera. Activation would be the same as before (on reverse, or via the P button then Camera).
The centre console photo below is not mine (I just searched for one) but it shows the switch.
The other photos are mine and show where I mounted the cameras. The front camera was mounted to the bottom lip of the grill surround. I have a front plate so it is not visible at all from standing height, but you could mount a flush mounting camera in one of the grill holes. For just a front-facing view that would be fine, but if you were fitting a top-down system you would need to mount forward enough to clear the front spoiler.
Noting that if you want to fit one - why not, why do you want to?
The only problem with the front sensors is that they only activate when you engage reverse (or at least, that was true for my August 2014 car). So you can't use them to "Bump Draft" 18-wheelers to improve your fuel economy on Freeways. 😎
