Default Front lower apron

So, I just got my first (probably not last) graze to the lower "sacrificial" black plastic front apron (right term?).
Fortunately it was minor. I was able to clean it up with light sanding and a touch of satin black oil paint.
So, my question is whether / how others repair after similar events?
Are there replacement parts available at reasonably cost, and is this an easy DIY?
Has anyone tried dressing up the (damaged) apron with something like
Black U Shape Rubber Seal Car Door Edge Guard Molding Trim Protector ??
This is cheap to buy on Ebay and looks like it would clamp on to the lower edge to hide any roughness.
For those who are more daring, it even comes in multiple colors.

Yes, replacements are available - check this thread:

Good idea with the edge trim - I might try that next time...

How important is this piece anyway? Does it serve any other function other than getting scraped up? Is it for airflow? Downforce? I'm thinking about just taking it off.

I wondered the same thing...
Mine were beat up when I got the car so i tool them off and drove the car without them for a couple weeks.
I wound up buying & installing a new center deflector and cleaning up the 2 side pieces.
If they get scarped up again, I'll probably just remove them...

My car never had them from the get go, I have considered buying a set, then decided it's not worth it.
