This piece looks so out of place especially on an on black car. Looks very cheap. Has anybody sanded and painted one before or painted over the textured finished? Please post text if possible thanks

I painted mine gloss black since it was faded and looked crappy. It came out pretty nice. I would recommend removing it instead of painting in-situ.

A decent paint shop won't charge you too much.

By way of comparison my jaguar bought pre primed bonnet vents cost me £30 to have sprayed in gloss black. Given that the area to be done is less complex for the XK diffuser, it may be worthwhile taking it off and doing the prep yourself and then get a paintshop to spray it for you, over here I'd guess at £50, but know you peeps stateside usully pay a premium.

That said I may be talking jack shot as my Dynamic R already has a nice body coloured diffuser

No, OEM. After 3-4 years it had faded so I had it painted to match the body colour.

i have not yet tried to modify or touch up that part, however in the past on other vehicles i have had decent success on plastic exterior parts like that one using this restorer:
